cyto
I finally replaced the Dual with this Technics SL1200M3D with a Shure M97xe cartridge. I had to make a stand because of the weight, the Dual was on top of the Denon CD changer, didn't think that would be a good idea with this TT. The cart seems to lack a little depth, how long should I give it to break in?

LarryC
The cart seems to lack a little depth, how long should I give it to break in? I'm not sure, but 40 hours seems a good all-round estimate for a lot of things, so why not a cart?Did you align the stylus? It doesn't take much misalignment to make a cart sound tinny and lacking in bass. This seems to satisfy many users' needs: http://www.audiophilia.com/features/cartridge_setup.htm
Schu
^ I agree... at least 20-30 hours as much as 50-60 as a general rule for carts, no experience with shure though. again...alignment and set up are key

LarryC
I gets better with each LP Sounds like it's breaking in nicely. If you feel the need, I suggest cross-checking with the link I suggested. You want to check for vertical azimuth and (by ear) whether the back of the tonearm needs to come or down a little. Ideally, the cantilever of your cart should be exactly parallel with the tangent of the record groove at where the point of the stylus sits. And level the 'table, of course.
