davis419b
I have the 904 with the 510 combo . For quite some time now I have been thinking about changing the 510 to a 402. I dont have alot of technical knowledge so I am looking to you guys to see what you think. I would prefer not to make a costly mistake ! Guest " "
Just some info. There are at least two versions of the 904/510 combo that I know of. One version is a 3 way and uses a 510/k69 for the mid and a 7XX/k-70-g for the tweeter. This one has a passive xover of 800hz and 5khz. I have a set of these. Another version, which I have never seen, buy folks on the fourm have reported they have is the 904 bass bin with the 510/? and not known to me if this is a two way or 3 way with another tweeter diff from the first version or if this is an active setup. In any event, point being is if you have a passive network, keep in mind what the lower xover point is. I persoanlly did not like the 510/69 and 7XX/K-70G with the stock xover setup 800/5000 so I switched out the k69 for an 1132 and changed the crossover to 450/4500 and like that much better. I used the AK-4 xover as a concept test and wound up leaving in place becuase it was that much of an improvement. The 1132 has a slightly lower reach and was a better match for the 450hz point I was using. I don't think I would be comfortable using the k-69 at or below 500hz with a passive crossover.....active sure.

How do I determine what the xover point is?
bhendrix
Hi davbis419b, The KPT-904 is listed in the cinema brochure with a crossover at 800Hz. See page 9 in attached pdf. I sent you a PM. CinemaBrochure.pdf
mikebse2a3
Keep in mind many of these cinema systems frequency response (ie: voicing) are designed for behind the screen usage which means they want sound tonally balanced with an excessive HF Response if used in a typical home listening room. If you have a good Eq in your system adjustments can be made that will bring the system in proper balance otherwise a modification or redesigned passive network will be required to reach the true potential of these systems. mike tn
