youngjj
I have a Scott LK-72 refurbished by Craig Otsby that I have been using for a couple of years. He suggested replacing the 12AX7s with Telefunkens to get rid of a little bit of persistent phono circuit noise. I was checking online for replacements. Does anyone have experience with Radio Tube Supply? I also need to check out all the tubes now, because there is distortion and I can't adjust the bias in one channel. Marvel
It's a vendor I haven't heard of; I have used: http://tubedepot.com/ You know what brands you're getting from them and their prices and service are good. You can also try Brent Jesse Recording. He is a very well respected supplier, although I haven't used him yet. http://www.audiotubes.com/bjtubes.htm Or... NOSValves
When you say you can not bias the output tubes do you mean you can not get the tubes "up" to the recommended bias or "down " to the recommended bias? If you can not get them "down" to the proper bias then I'd suggest you stop using the amp until you get some new output tubes. If I was you I'd just order some JJ 7591S tubes from www.dougstubes.com he might have some telefunken 12AX7's but they will be expensive from any actual tube vendor including Doug. eBay is really the most affordable method of buying Telefunken 12AX7 its a pretty safe bet since the diamond impression between the tube pins rules out fakes and in most cases that tube is near impossible to kill. You just need to confirm the seller has lots a good positive feed back selling vintage tested tubes. Looks like pairs go for around $80 or so these days. youngjj
Thanks for the suggestion, Craig. I have four matched JJ 7591s in transit from a respected ebay seller. I am still thinking about the Telefunken 12AX7s. After I put in the 7591s I'll see how the Scott sounds. By the way, I recently had to replace the fuse. Is that a red flag?
