World War II stories

We get a lot of veterans commemoration around Memorial Day. CSPAN has been airing interviews with the aging veterans from world war two. This recounting came from a 101st Airborn member from the european theater. Having been parachuted behind the lines he was working with the Dutch resistance. 3 resistance members had attacked a small contingent of Germans dispatching all but 1 of them. The sole surviving man was injured and captured for interrogation. They left him with the American soldiers in a small Dutch village. After a bit a little tiny, bent-over old Dutch lady came from a cottage and went up to this injured German. She asked the man 'where it hurt'. He motioned to his shoulder where he had been shot. The little old woman reared back her purse and whacked him directly on his wound causing him great distress. The American soldiers roared with laughter seeing this little old woman extract some minor amount of vengeance. And then she did it again, harder this time. Immediately 2 resistance members came over and carried the old lady away with some effort. The Americans, asked them why, saying she was harmless and deserved her come uppance. The resistance members shook their heads and emptied the old ladies purse. She had put a brick in it and had intended to finish the guy off personally.

The Dutch are noted for their "fierce independence." It's reported that freelance hypnotists avoid the Netherlands as a rule.

Isn't it interesting that she would come out of her house for vengeance: there must be more to this story.

We went to the D Day National World War II museum in New Orleans that weekend. Just a coincidence that it was Memorial Day actually, we were in town for another event.

Anyway, quite humbling. It cost to get in (19.00) but honestly that museum should be free so no one would have any excuse not to see it. That is a story and time that should not be forgotten, and lessons that everyone should know.

Been there, a great museum, it's part of the Smithsonian so I don't know why they charge to get in unless it's privately owned ?

Either way, your right, everyone should see it. The day we went there was a volunteer there who was in World War ll, he was even dressed in uniform, not many around like him anymore.

If that place does not get you upset something's wrong with you !
