Brac
The wife has been wanting a tablet for awhile, she really wanted a windows tablet, but they are way over priced. We saw the nexus 7 and the specs and reviews looked good, thought it would be nice to have for our las vegas/ grand canyon trip so I ordered one through B&H, I then got an e-mail that it was BO till sept. So the day I got the email just happened to be the day google started showing them in stock. Ordering direct added $25 to the price (tax and shipping) but we had it 3 days later. I am just blown away by how fast this thing is, Google earth works as fast as you can swipe your finger no lag what so ever. The voice recognition search really works well, and it seems to have lots of useful apps on it. Still learning what does what and such. The only 2 things i didn't like about the nexus 7 were 1) it did not work on 3g or any other cell network, but I was able to root it and get it "tethered" to the cell phone, so now if the cell phone works we can use the tablet. 2) only 16gb with no expansion slot, I was able to pick up a 128gb SSD and external case for $100 and with an app called stickmount I should be able to use the HD for things like picture storage. (just waiting on an adapter for the micro slot that will allow full size usb and a few other things.
Daddy Dee
sounds like a pretty cool little outfit. have you got a link for the external SSD and case? That sounds like a pretty good deal.
Marvel
This newer round of tablets will raise the bar, no matter who the vendorhappens to be. The newer version ofthe Android OS will help out a lot, too. My wife has a Kindle Fire, which we both like, but the performance on the latest stuff is leaps and bounds better. Brac
It was this drive, which is top notch, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147163 however the $15 coupon code has expired. I see this deal is active, less money but not as highly rated drive. Buy.com has 128GB Kingston SSDNow V200 Series 2.5" SATA III Internal Solid State Drive SSD (SV200S37A/128G) for $75 - $15 rebate = $60 with free shipping. slickdeals.net always post great deals on SSD's. I went with this USB 3.0 enclosure for $15. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817388031
