emotiva umc1 and adcom GFA 2535

Lemon string

Recommended Posts

So after much obsessing...... I went ahead and bought a used emotiva umc 1. I plan to hook it up (for now) to 2 adcom gfa 2535's that I have from a friend. These amps can perform as 4 x 60 wpc or as 200w on one side with the other side running 2 channels at 60wpc. I have RF 82's as fronts, would it be unwise to run the 82's on 200wpc? If anyone knows these amps or the emotiva please feel free to chime in. I am currently running the speakers with a yamaha rx a720. The system sounds good but I am curious if it will sound better with seperate dedicated power and preamp. Btw does anyone know if the UMC1 has a Dac built into it?

I must add that after my last post I moved the 82's about 14" away from the back wall (very slightly toed in), they were about 6 to 8 inches away, and it did make a noticeable difference in clarity and voicing in the mids. It was kind of amazing really, so thank you to all the more experienced guys that commented on that post about tunning the room. I plan to make some diy accoustical wall treatments soon to see what more can be done. Again if anyone has any thoughts and expirence they'd care to share with a newb..... I am all "ears".

Thanks all

Update......

I hooked up the emotiva UMC-1 and the 2 adcom 2535's and wow! It made a big improvement. I have to say that it opened up the sound significantly. It added a nice smooth and warm quality while delivering a super high level clarity. Im returning the yamaha.... which as I stated sounded good but it was definetly lacking the depth of the emotiva with the adcoms.

This may come as little surprise to most but I wanted to share my expereince should anyone find it helpful. I honestly didn't expect much of a noticeable difference but I'd say it was real upgrade in sound quality.

Also I have to give a plug to Emotiva... I've spoken with Keith in their offices and he has been great in helping me out with the set up and questions, as well as transferring the warranty to me from the previous owner.
