Audible Nectar
OK, the frustration is getting to me. I've been patiently waiting for Outlaw to release the 950 pre-pro. For those of you who are not aware, Outlaw is several months behind on promised delivery of the 950 - and apparently are experiencing trouble now that they have begun delivering units. The Outlaws aren't talking about what's going on, or when they will resume delivery - and the 2 months of silence is troublesome to me, at best. So, I've decided to ask the board just what else is out there. Amongst the acceptable units, I found that the Acurus ACT3 with bass management upgrade was a good unit. I looked long and hard at the ACT3 - too long. The closeout deals on this unit disappeared before I decided to buy one. In hindsight, I should have. I would have been happy with it, due to it's very clean 2 channel performance as well as 5.1 DD and DTS (all I really feel I need in my HT). Are there any other options for pre-pros at $1000 or less?? (budget is a bit flexible). Anything out there on some dealer's closeout rack?? I prefer to get the pre/pro from someone authorized to sell it, in case warranty becomes an issue. Any suggestions?? ------------------ Klipsch Cornwall II's (mains) Klipsch Academy (center channel) Klipsch Chorus (surrounds) Outlaw 750 Amplifier (5x165) H/K AVR 75 (used as pre/pro - will be upgraded soon) Bass Kit: 2 JBL 4638 LFE/Bass Reinforcement cabinets Crown CE 1000 amplifier Behringer Feedback Destroyer (Bass EQ) Sources: Pioneer DV-333 2 Aiwa ADF-850 3 head cassette decks General Instruments cable box Panasonic VHS PV-4459 Digital Audio Labs CardDeluxe (computer sound) f> c> s> This message has been edited by dndphishin on 06-21-2002 at 10:49 AM
DrPyro
dndphishin- For the $1000 ballpark, there is really only one pre/pro in that range that i know of, the Rotel RSP-1066 it retails for $1500 (this is making the assumption that you want to go for a new SS) The advantage of the Rotel is that you could go down to your store and buy it today and it is software upgradeable and it has had 5 upgrades since its release. -Dave ------------------ Home Theater

whell
I owned the ACT-3 for a while. If you're looking for a quality home theater centerpiece, that is currently (for a limited time) upgradable from the manufacturer, it is a good option. If you also have a combined HT/Music system, the ACT-3 is a great option. The DAC's are first rate, and music CD's and DVD's really sing. ------------------ Mike - Livonia, MI Klipsch RF-3 L/R Klipsch RC-3 Center Klipsch RB-5 rears HSU Research VF-2 Sub Marantz SR-19EX receiver Marantz MM-9000 Amp NAD T550 DVD Adcom GCD 700 CD
