SWL
Interested to hear your results, Rudy. Years ago I had a pair of RSW-15's....sold them....and I just picked up a used one last year in perfect condition. I'd like to find another one but in the meantime I'm running it with a pair of 18" EV subs that I'm not extremely fond of but they work well dialed in with the RSW-15. I've got mine approx. 6-8 inches from the wall behind it after some pretty extensive experimenting with location. Spiking the sub was a major influence. However, there had to be a gap of approx. 1/2 -3/4 of an inch from bottom of cab to carpet. If it was flush with the carpet there was no improvement. FYI my listening room is carpeted over a full basement. If you're on concrete, spikes may give you a totally different result? Good luck. Rudy81
All my gear is on a second floor. So, no concrete in my room. I hope to get to the test in the next few days. I am in the process of cutting the denim insulation batts. The process of working on the room treatments is chronicled here: https://community.klipsch.com/index.php?/topic/151061-diy-acoustic-room-treatments/
Rudy81
Got a chance to run a test today. Ran my left RSW-15 from 20-200Hz. First with no corner treatments. Then with a singe 4' corner treatment, then with a full floor to ceiling treatment. Seemingly no effect below 70Hz. Above that, there is a quite a bit of absorption. I am currently running the three RSW-15's from 20-80Hz. The lime colored line is with no corner treatment. The red and blue are with half and full corner treatment. My initial feeling is to go ahead and treat all four corners. I have plenty of power to add bass if needed, but this way I get the best room treatment possible. Once the corners are in, I can then test for the subs for the best location.
CECAA850
Definitely do the 4 corners before placing the subs and measuring.
Rudy81
Definitely do the 4 corners before placing the subs and measuring. Yes, once I get everything set up I will have to check all my driver settings again. It will be quite a bit of work. I have six absorbers to go on the wall reflection points, 4 absorbers for the ceiling reflection points, 4 individual super chunk assemblies for the wall/ceiling corners at the reflection points and rear wall. Also, the diffusers I made for the rear wall and the 4 room corners with super chunk. I will say, working with the UltraTouch insulation is way better than dealing with fiberglass! CECAA850
Sounds like a fun project. Room treatments make a huge difference in most rooms.
Rudy81
Sounds like a fun project. Room treatments make a huge difference in most rooms. I have been so happy with my current setup, that I decided to seriously focus on the room to get that last bit of performance by reducing the room effects....particularly on the bass bands. However, I think I will be benefiting from also taming HF wall reflections at the first reflection points.
