krusty46
Has anyone ever tried mounting a RC-3 on the ceiling and used it as a rear surround center for ES? I have a window and radiator right behind my sofa, plus I would not want to have a speaker sitting (literally) right behind my head. I was wondering if anyone has tried using speaker mounting brackets and mounted it on the ceiling, sorta above the sofa? How would this sound? It would have to be aimed almost straight down. And the speaker is kinda heavy. Would I have to drill holes into the speaker or are their contraptions for doing this sort of thing? I'm kinda short on space and my only other realistic option is to sit it directly of top of my radiator, but it would be pressed up against the back of my sofa. Enough of my dumb questions for now. Thanks in advance ------------------ Mains: KLF 10's Center: RC-3 (I know--doesn't match mains) Surrounds: Quintets Receiver: Denon 3802 DVD: Toshiba 3109 and 5700 (5700 goin back-stinks) TV: Sony 36XBR400 MIT cables throughout
Guest BobG
You could try putting it on the floor just behind the sofa facing up to experiment easily and without any drilling of holes.
jtkinney
I have a plan to do this, but it hasn't happened yet. I don't have a wall behind the listening position. Right now it is sitting on a shelf, but that is too low. Mine will angle down about 45deg., so I am going to build a shelf attached to the ceiling, with a lip to keep the speaker from sliding. ------------------ Jim Family Room: 1979 La Scala's (mains) SF-2 Center (pair) RS-3 Surrounds RC-3 Rear Center KSW-10 Subs (pair) Yamaha RX-V1 Reciever Yamaha CDC-655 CD Player Toshiba SD-1200 DVD Toshiba TN50X81 50" HDTV Bedroom: Yamaha RX-V590 SF-1 Mains
krusty46
Shelf is not a bad idea. That way I won't have to drill holes in the speaker. ------------------ Mains: KLF 10's Center: RC-3 (I know--doesn't match mains) Surrounds: Quintets Receiver: Denon 3802 DVD: Toshiba 3109 and 5700 (5700 goin back-stinks) TV: Sony 36XBR400 MIT cables throughout
T2K
What is the hole spacing of the built in keyhole mount? Keith
sunbeam64
Keith- don't think RC's have keyhole mounts- probably thinking RS's. Krusty,If I were thinking along your line might try to locate pair of wall joists and install 2 pair of eye-screws and install 4 piano wires into a shelf that would match speaker veneer.Would be able to angle downward and place away from rear wall to utilise rear ports on speaker. Placing on radiator would probably shorten life of speaker due to heat, pesent problems with speaker wire near hot metal. Good luck!
