Unity_coupled
I just picked up a pair of Forte II's and one of the things I'd like to do is build risers for them to factory dimensions. I've gathered they're 3 1/4" tall and the same outer dimensions of the cabinet but didn't find much info about the routed top edge. Could someone please fill me in? Matthews
I have some disassembled Chorus risers. I believe they are identical except for outer dimensions. I will post some photos of them this evening after work, if this helps.
Unity_coupled
That would help tremendously, thanks. Would you be able to also take some measurements of the routed part in question?OK I got some measurements from a guy on another forum. Does this look about right? Thickness is 3/4" BTW. Unity_coupled
Great pics, Thank you From your pics the 9/16 dimension in my sketch looks more like 5/8, but everything else is in agreement.. Unity_coupled
Is there anything on the underside that's different than the topside (feet etc)? Are the triangular corner pieces the full 3 1/4" tall?
Matthews
I will take/post some more photos of them for you this evenimg...
moray james
looks like you will be able to replicate the factory rises. I would ask you why though? If you want simply to make them as close to stock I understand that goal. If you want to obtain all the performance these speakers are capable of and to improve the looks then a four post stand is the way to go and also remove the old risers and your rig will look much cleaner for it. Stands in the 14 - 16 inch high range will in most cases get the speaker up to where it will perform best. You want to raise the speaker so that the centre of the mid horn is at your seated ear level which is usually around 39 - 41 inches up off the floor. I have included a photo of a very similar sized cabinet (Harbeth M40 with 12" woofer) so you can get a better idea of the visual aesthetic that I am talking about. I placed my set of Forte ll up on these same stands when I gave them to my son, they sound excellent. Unity_coupled
Thank you Matthews for the detailed photos. They're going to be very helpful... @Moray: I just want to recreate the factory look. I actually have them on 12" stands right now and they sound great.
moray james
Fair enough what ever works your you in terms of aesthetics is your call. The addition of the plate that Matthews used in his risers is a very good idea for any keeping the stock riser and it will result is a more secure and rigid base for the loudspeaker to stand upon, a good plan and worth the effort well recommended. Thanks to Matthews for posting his photos of his riser modification. Best regards Moray James. moray james
neither pair of my Forte or Forte ll nor my Quartet had the plywood plates built into the rises nor did my Heresy or Heresy
Matthews
Moray, these risers are from the Original Chorus 1. Possibly modded by another owner but the build work appears consistent with the rest of the cabinet. Same staples, reinforcing strips etc... jjptkd
The Chorus 1 came with plywood in the riser as pictured, for some reason they didn't add it in on the Chorus II though and they are significantly weaker without it.
