Three Telefunken 12AX7's for 5 Bucks!

Parking Lot/Yard sale a block away.

Found a Bell Carillon 35-A 35 watt PA amplifier, with a price tag for 5 bucks.

Didn't think much of it, you know, it's a PA amp!

Then I noticed A Telefunken Logo on a smaller tube.

Then noticed it was a 12AX7.

Figured it was worth 5 bucks then!

When I got home, I pulled the tube guards and found two more!

They are nice and clean cosmetically.

I need to have them tested, though I would bet money they will work.

The amp itself is nice and clean, no rust or pitting.

(But that doesn't really mean anything.)

The output tubes are 6L6 GC, they do not look that great, the getter flash is a brown reddish color on both.

And a RCA 12AV6, whatever that is.

I wonder if this thing has Sellenium rectifiers.

I'm glad I went there.

This morning I tore the cover off the Bell PA amp and everything looked nice and clean.

(I know, that doesn't really mean anything.)

It has a Diode bridge BTW, no rectifiying tube.

Stashing the Telefunken's for better things, I put in GE 12AX7's in place of the Tele's and took a chance and fired it up. I figured it's a 35 watt mono PA amp with typical 16/8/4 ohm taps, so I wired one of my SVS 16/46 4 ohm subwoofers to the 4 ohm tap.

I have a Bass EQ/crossover between the Bell amp and the source CDP.

The amp had a serious hum going, But has a ground pin on the plug with a extra wire. So I just grounded the wire to the chassis, and now have the hum down to a good acceptable level.(For me, anyway.)

I know this will appall most folks around here, but this Bell amp works this subwoofer rather nicely.

It has plenty of the ambience, plenty of power, and seems to mesh better with the other tube amps, or the impression of better matching.

Well it does pretty good with my older Sansui speakers at the moment, no Klipsch.cwm14.gif

I like it better the NAD 2100 power envelope bridged that I was using.

In a larger room I can see this running out of steam, but I'm in a smaller room and you can feel it.

It doesn't do too bad, Best 5 bucks spent in a long time.

I need to listen to it over time and see what happens.

4 tube amps going at once, it heats the room.

(The power bill will suck.)

Flea market system:

Cobbled Carver 490t with Bugle boy 6DJ8 buffer tubes.

Two desecrated Eico HF-12's for Sansui speakers sans tweeters.

RCA 6BQ5SE Peanut amp for Cheap Sansui horn tweeters.

SVS Concrete form 16/46 size with Bell PA 35 watt yard sale amp and wore out Audio Control Richter Scale bass EQ/Crossover.

Beats SS.
