jwadd21
i have heard bad things and good things about all of these receivers.....The denon having good warm sound but quality problems, the marantz having the best sound for music but defects, and the hk having warm sound but also having problems and way less power. I have been getting close to getting the Marantz lately because I can get one for around $500 and because music is about %80 of my listening. The problem is I dont know if this was made after they fixed the defects. Also, I noticed the xover for subwoofer sound is high at 100hz....I can also get the Denon for around $500, but I would like to know what the quality issues are with them and what the xover for subwoofer sound is, 80? 100?...Or I can go with HK and go with less power, which I dont really want to do. So, what should I do? I want the best for music, which would obviously be marantz, but I do not want to risk the quality issues. speed3
From your post, you realize that all of the manufacturers you are looking at have had some QC problems. The reason for this is that they all do!!! Any of those receivers would be fine for your system. Just purchase from an authorized dealer and you won't have any worries. PS, buy the Denon!!! Dafishguy
Hi jwadd21, I owned the AVR-2802 Denon before I got my AVR-5803. Part of the reason I got the 5803 was because of how much I liked the 2802. It was a very nice sounding unit for both music and movies and has some real nice features as well. In the year I owner the 2802 I has zero trouble with it and when I traded it back to the store for the 5803 I got back exactly what I paid for it less taxes as the store has a one year trade back policy. Go for the Denon, very nice stable units and buy from an authorized dealer. That way if you do happen to get a dud, (Which can happen from any manufacturer on any item available), you will be protected. Hope this helps. zandern
Go with the Denon 2802. I love mine. I love how I can choose from so many different listening options, 5 channel stereo, Pro logic, etc. I have no quality problems with mine, I find it to be extremely clean. I too have the RF3II's and they work great together. I believe the crossover frequency has a choice of 80, 100, or 120. Notice a trend here. Three Denon's makes a buy. ------------------ The 17th school is done, no more forum for me.
Orange Peel
I like the Harman Kardon, I like the looks and it seems to have clean stable power, not a ton, but like everyone says, it's about quality not just quantity. I plan to get the AVR 320 real soon, I have the HK AVR 125 right now a love it, I just want the 6.1 and 7.1 options. Just my opinion, buy what you like. ------------------ Scottc>s> Goldsmithc>s> Home Theatre:s> Klipsch RF-3's (Front Mains)c> Klipsch RC-3 (Center)c> Klipsch RS-3's (Rear Surrounds)c> Polk Audio PSW650 subc> Harman Kardon AVR-125c> Mitsubishi 60" Big Screen VS-60609c> Sony DVD DVP-S530Dc> Sony VCR SLV-N77c>

Orange Peel
SHEEEEEEIIIITTTT!!!! I might buy one for that price!! When is it going to be delivered??? PLEASE let me know when you get it, how it works, etc, so I can buy one instead of getting the AVR 320. Man, a $999 reciever for $469, you SO SCORED! ------------------ Scottc>s> Goldsmithc>s> Home Theatre:s> Klipsch RF-3's (Front Mains)c> Klipsch RC-3 (Center)c> Klipsch RS-3's (Rear Surrounds)c> Polk Audio PSW650 subc> Harman Kardon AVR-125c> Mitsubishi 60" Big Screen VS-60609c> Sony DVD DVP-S530Dc> Sony VCR SLV-N77c>
Orange Peel
Also, who was selling this receiver? I went there and looked for one, and I only found the AVR 510, no 520's. I hope there's more. Also what was the shipping on that? ------------------ Scottc>s> Goldsmithc>s> Home Theatre:s> Klipsch RF-3's (Front Mains)c> Klipsch RC-3 (Center)c> Klipsch RS-3's (Rear Surrounds)c> Polk Audio PSW650 subc> Harman Kardon AVR-125c> Mitsubishi 60" Big Screen VS-60609c> Sony DVD DVP-S530Dc> Sony VCR SLV-N77c>
jwadd21
Well, it really is more like $489, because the shipping is like $50 and it should be more like $30. But still, 499!!!....it's at Ubid.com....They put a few 520's up every other day around 9pm and the auctions end the next day around noon...check it out, if you can get one for under 500 before shipping, it is an incredible deal, considering you wont find one in stores for under 800 bucks, and rarely under 899. ------------------ MY SYSTEM Mains: Klipsch RF-3II Center: Klipsch RF-3II Rear L/R: Polk R40 bookshelves(suck)...soon to be Klipsch RS-3II Subwoofers: Dual SVS 25-31CS Subwoofer Amp: Fidek 3002 600w Receiver: Harmon Kardon AVR520 DVD Player: JVC Progressive Scan TV: Toshiba 32A42 32"
Orange Peel
Are they brand new or used/refurbs? Did you "buy it now" or go through the whole bid thing? jwadd21
its a refurb actually, but i see no problem with buying refurbs. i mean, they are supposed to be just like the other ones. they come with a warranty of 2 years i believe. yes i did have to bid a couple times. ------------------ MY SYSTEM Mains: Klipsch RF-3II Center: Klipsch RF-3II Rear L/R: Polk R40 bookshelves(suck)...soon to be Klipsch RS-3II Subwoofers: Dual SVS 25-31CS Subwoofer Amp: Fidek 3002 600w Receiver: Harmon Kardon AVR520 DVD Player: JVC Progressive Scan TV: Toshiba 32A42 32"
Orange Peel
Sweet deal dude. Yeah I don't see problems with refurbs either, in fact, I'm bidding on a refurb from Harman Kardon HK AVR 320 right now, it has a couple days to go, but if I don't win that, which I doubt I will, I never win anything, I'm seriously looking at a Pioneer Elite model, something different, plus their lowest model has 100w/channel, and I can get it for $450 area on ebay, I will look at local stores too. I'm just waiting to see what others think of this receiver first, don't want to waste my money ------------------ Scottc>s> Goldsmithc>s> Home Theatre:s> Klipsch RF-3's (Front Mains)c> Klipsch RC-3 (Center)c> Klipsch RS-3's (Rear Surrounds)c> Polk Audio PSW650 subc> Harman Kardon AVR-125c> Mitsubishi 60" Big Screen VS-60609c> Sony DVD DVP-S530Dc> Sony VCR SLV-N77c>

Orange Peel
I found some on ubid, they have it labeled wrong. I placed a bid, so let's hope I get one. I can't believe the $50 shipping, ouch, oh well. I can get a brand new one for $605 plus shipping from Sound Pros on ebay, so if this fails I may go with them. ------------------ Scottc>s> Goldsmithc>s> Home Theatre:s> Klipsch RF-3's (Front Mains)c> Klipsch RC-3 (Center)c> Klipsch RS-3's (Rear Surrounds)c> Polk Audio PSW650 subc> Harman Kardon AVR-125c> Mitsubishi 60" Big Screen VS-60609c> Sony DVD DVP-S530Dc> Sony VCR SLV-N77c>
