mike stehr
These things are strange. I'm geussing these are mid to late sixties vintage. They are a omnidrectional speaker with 3 sealed mids and 3 sealed back tweeters shooting out the sides. The woofer is underneath the other units and shoots down at the bottom. The bottom peice of the enclosure is plastic, which goes to a point underneath the woofer. In fact, the only thing that is wood is the top and the lattice. Evidently Pioneer must just have purchased their first plastic injection mold presses, and the CS-06a is what came from it. They look almost new after a little cleanup, and sound rather nice. My Eico's push them pretty good, 60 watt max speakers.(They lack bass, but that's probably the amps themselves.) Overall, the drivers are kinda cheap, it's in a plastic enclosure, crossover's are mega cheap, but kinda cool speakers from a vintage standpoint. They look like little round endtables, my girlfriend likes them. I wonder if there is much demand for these sort of speakers on Ebay? ShapeShifter
Still have a pair of CS-88A's from the early 70's just like the ones in the pic below. They are 6-way speakers with a 12" woofer, horn super-tweeter and midranges. The crossover panel on the back of each has two 3-position switches for Mid and High ranges. Their Walnut cabinet construction & real wood lattice grills are quite nice. I enjoyed these for many years before storing them. Checkout the per pair prices of the CS-99A and CS-77A's at this site: http://www.oaktreeent.com/Stereo_Speakers.htm ------------------ KLIPSCH IS MUSICf> My Systems f>s>c> This message has been edited by ShapeShifter on 09-04-2002 at 08:25 AM
Flason
Is it me, or do they look like vintage Sansui speakers?
mike stehr
Yeah, they look a lot like my Sansui SP-2000's. My boss's stepkid inherited his Pioneer CS-801's. These had a mid and horn tweeter, with a twelve inch woofer. They were nice. These CS-06a's are nothing special soundwise, more or less just unique audio furniture. They'll make nice endtables if anything.
ShapeShifter
There's a bit of resemblance, but they're all Pioneer. If I remember correctly, the CS-88A's were not sold stateside either. To my knowledge, most were brought back by us former military types or OCONUS civilian personnel. ------------------ KLIPSCH IS MUSICf> My Systems f>s>c>
mike stehr
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1379000920 I think I'll just use them for endtables. Now this guy's auction is up to a hundred bucks! Maybe I better Ebay them!
