Islander
Did anyone else click on the link in Ceptorman's YouTube clip that shows the whole TV show about the RC166? After the engine is run briefly, the bike is almost completely disassembled and the parts are weighed and commented on. It would be amazing to see a show like that on North American TV. It runs one hour and forty-eight minutes, but you can fast-forward through parts and still get the idea. The ignition system had three sets of points. Islander
copycat The Benelli Sei was a copycat of a Honda, all right, but not of the CBX1000. It was more like a CB500 with two extra cylinders. John Williams, the Canadian who won the world hillclimbing championship 5 times, ran a heavily modified CB750 on 100% nitro, then eventually found a 6-cylinder Benelli and raced it, also with lots of nitro. You can read about it in one of the posts on this page: http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=66000.0 There's more info on this page, which is about John Williams's induction into the Canadian Motorcycle Hall of Fame in 2009. In the video, he tells a bit about some of his adventures, including buying beer from a priest in Pennsylvania at a hillclimb. http://canmoto.ca/john-williams-class-of-2009/
J Free
Cool info there. I know Honda made 6s earlier, but as far as I know Benelli was the first to put it on the street.
Gilbert
A couple of them are tricked out. Back in the day, I had the opportunity to buy a 5 year old, low milage 79 CBX that had it's engine torn-down and rebuilt by Russ Collins. Russ was a famous drag racer, he is no longer on this planet. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ks1nvgWvSfA Did anyone else click on the link in Ceptorman's YouTube clip that shows the whole TV show about the RC166? Islander
I don't know more than a dozen Japanese words, but the TV show is kind of show and tell, so it's easy to see what they're showing. They do a pretty thorough tear-down.
