Brett Gregory
Hi. I have just ordered 2 R-28F, 1 R-25C , and 1 R-12SW. I will later on probably add 2 surround speakers. My worry and question is that i was told that the Yamaha, RX-V481BL 725w 5.1-Ch receiver would be sufficient for running this, and i just wanted to be sure that it really is. I have bought the receiver from Best Buy so can easily return it and change it for something else.
willland
Brett Gregory, Welcome to the forum. Well, it is a pretty weak AVR for driving those speakers in a larger room. No room for expansion and pretty much a lower entry level AVR. What is the size of your room? Bill

The room is 16x16 and is a vaulted ceiling.
teaman
Hi Brett, I agree with Bill...that Yamaha is an entry level receiver that probably will leave you wanting more. What is your budget for a receiver if you do return that one? Tim
Brett Gregory
My budget is $500 - $600 for the receiver
teaman
Maybe check out http://www.accessories4less.com/ to see what kind of deals they have. I actually like Yamaha and have had several but I think you can do better on a deal regardless of which brand you buy....over a Best Buy price. Brett Gregory
So would the Yamaha RX-V679BL be that much of an upgrade from the model that I have?

If it were me and Yamaha is the route I am going for that budget, I would get this. http://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/yamrxa1040bl/yamaha-rx-a1040-7.2-ch-x-110-watts-networking-a/v-receiver/1.html Bill
Brett Gregory
Sorry to keep asking, but what other brands and models would you suggest?

I guess it depends on what is important to you. Atmos?, etc... there are a lot of options but it will depend on what exactly you are looking for. Personally I have no interest in Atmos and 7.1 is as much in the way of speakers that I need. I have owned plenty of receivers and heard many more and I would put my Sherbourn SR-120 up against just about anything. It hangs with my Emotiva XPA-2 and XPA-5 set up with 200 and 300 wpc respectively...and dwarfs anything else I have heard. It puts out 125 real bench tested watts per channel across the front three and 75 real watts across the other four channels. It weighs 73 lbs and is built like a tank. My SR-120 drowned out my Yamaha RX-V2700 (which was rated at 130 wpc) at about one third volume.
Brett Gregory
I guess I'm trying to find a receiver that is something not entry level, but a step or two up from that to at least get more from the speakers I wish my budget was more, and I would go with the last options you gave me, it's just a little out my price range. fuzzydog
This is what I would get with your budget... https://www.amazon.com/SC-1223-K-7-2-Channel-Receiver-AmazonBasics-Bluetooth/dp/B016VI6W06/ref=sr_1_23?ie=UTF8&qid=1471950337&sr=8-23&keywords=Pioneer+sc
RoboKlipsch
Denon makes nice avrs. If u go that route look for Audyssey xt or xt32 if possible. The x4000 is an older model but has great features and can be found new around 600 to 700 or used around 400.
