BBZink
i was looking for a USB DAC, cheap and sounding great, i have found this http://www.henryaudio.com comment we're good, and so far it is sounding great and i tend to agree with review it ad. Any comment on this dac? it is supposed to be open source, what does that mean, that i could upgrade it? with tube output? or that sort of thing? regards
Alpha220
As a cheap DAC alternative... Just ordered an Audioquest Dragonfly Black (under $100). It will arrive today. Reviews are excellent- see the Stereophile review. A more expensive, higher output (targeted toward finicky headphones), but similar sounding Dragonfly Red, is also available. Also, see the Henry DAC review below that compares both - the Dragonfly is preferred. (Earlier versions pop up on eBay for $50, upon occasion.) http://www.audioquest.com/dragonfly-series/ https://www.amazon.com/AudioQuest-DragonFly-Black-Headphone-Amplifier/dp/B01DP5JHHI/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1500723073 https://www.stereophile.com/content/audioquest-dragonfly-red-black-usb-da-headphone-amplifiers https://www.whathifi.com/henry-audio/usb-dac-128-mkii/review Of course, any DAC is better than no DAC! One way or another digital files must be converted to analog for playback.
SOV
Any R2R/ladder-dac. For example Schiits multibit dacs or Soekris http://soekris.dk/products.html Read: http://www.mother-of-tone.com/conversion.htm
DizRotus
"Cheap" is such a negative word, at least by connotation. I would welcome an inexpensive quality DAC. I want nothing to do with "cheap."

Change the cheap for inexpensive, but it is bizarre as our society grow older it became sensible for wording? so now we are not old anymore, we are experienced and we are not a society, we are a community,... and it is not wording it is marketing or branding...
