I started my audio journey with a Velodyne CT-100.  It was a very descent sub.  I later found a great deal on a pair of Klipsch CF-2, Klipsch KV-1 Center and a Velodyne F-1500 (15" with 250 watt amp) for $125.00.  It was a HUGE upgrade from the CT-100 (going from 10" to a 15") even though it wasn't the cleanest sounding sub, it certainly dug deeper and had much more impact.  Later found a Velodyne HGS15 (15" with 1250 watt amp / 3000 peak) for under $300. 

 

My audio strategy has always been to only buy REALLY REALLY good buys.  That way if and when I choose to upgrade, I know for certain I can at least get what I have in it.  I'm patient enough to wait for the right deals to come along.  That's how I have obtained everything in my signature except for the Projector (which I bartered for by building a website for one of my clients).

I'm not a big fan of 10" subs but this gives you an idea of pricing comparison for the RW-12d I posted above - Link

 

I think the CT-120 would be very comparable to the Klipsch RW-12d - Link

You could sell your BOSE 701's and use that towards a descent sub.

Annnd bonus crabs for whoever leaves a functioning subwoofer behind! 

I am very jealous.  Lived in St. Mary's Co. for several years in the early 90's, when blue crabs and oysters were cheap by the bushel......Miss that.
