vasubandu
HI all, I am setting up a new system and thinking subwoofer to go along with Klipsch RF-7 towers, RC-7 center and RS-7 surrounds. I have a Paradigm PW2200, and it has always seemed more than adequate, but I am not sure with these new speakers. SO I guess the fist question for you subwoofer geniuses is whether I should just stick with the PW2200 or upgrade to something. And if I did upgrade, do I need to stick with Klipsch or should I consider other things? ELAC has a 12 inch 1000 watt subwoofer that gets great reviews for $700. I see them down to about $600. So would this be a good way to go? Any subwoofer advice would be great.
wuzzzer
Go SVS and don't look back. Get two subs. Go ported if you want more spl or go sealed if you want tighter, more refined bass.
vasubandu
Thanks @wuzzzer but that complicates things. Was thinking of a 5.1.4 system, and not sure what receiver would be required for 5.2.4. Then again Atmos is being put off for another day. SO if I went with 2 amps, and I going with 2 smaller ones? Would my Paradigm PW2200 work as one or does it just need to go?
wuzzzer
Sell the Paradigm. Get an RCA y-splitter. Any receiver with a single subwoofer pre out can run multiple subs that way.
vasubandu
OK, I can do that. I was wondering if multiple subs were tied to one side or another, but I guess it is all one big happy boom.
vasubandu
OK so SVS, but SVS what? I guess it would depend on whether 1 or 2 subwoofers? What the heck should i look for?
wuzzzer
How much do you want to spend?
vasubandu
Yikes, not sure at all. Given that the speaker budget was $1,800, I would not expect the subwoofer to be a huge fraction of that but I might be wrong.
vasubandu
Right now someone locally has a PB2-Plus for $600 and someone just up the street has an SB13 Ultra for $1200
wuzzzer
The Plus is going to be older and look pretty plain compared to the Ultra. Great value on the Plus, I think the Ultra is a little overpriced.
vasubandu
Thanks @wuzzzer. I really do not care much how it looks. Right now the subwoofer is in a built-in cabinet behind a wood grate with that is made is 1.8 inch wood in square pattern with half-inch holes. Not sure if that will work with the new one or not. Here is a strange question for you. How about the PB-2 Plus and a PC-12 that is available locally for $325? Or am I way out in left field? wuzzzer
It can be tricky getting two non identical subs to blend together. Worth a try but it may be a lot of trial and error getting everything to sound correct.
vasubandu
Then probably easier to get several of the same. I have read some fascinating stuff about the SB2-Plus/2 and the SB12 Plus/2. Any thoughts?
CECAA850
1 hour ago, vasubandu said: SB2-Plus/2 and the SB12 Plus/2 SB or PB? Any of the dual driver SVS's are absolute beasts. The first time I fired one up in my living room, it looked like it was snowing from the dust being shaken loose off the textured ceiling and I'm on a concrete slab.
