dtr20
They don't come with poly from the factory. Maybe the previous owner finished it with poly. When is last did this, I used a organic finish stripper to get the poly off. It took several turns to get it all off. The poly was in super thick. The directions said to let the chemical sit on the finish for about 20 minutes, but I found everything worked significantly better/easier when letting it sit for an hour. Use a scraper to get the poly off. After this, you will probably need to sand the cabinets. I used a stain, but birch doesn't always absorb the stain color well. As far as finishing later, I like Howard's feed and seed wax, but others like to use tung oil.
