larks Posted October 28, 2002 Share Posted October 28, 2002 I have a pair of old Heresy's (140X582 /140X583) that I got in the early 80's. They still sound great and the cabinets are made with real wood (it's plywood, but at least it's not veneer) - I am trying to match them up with a HSU 1220 sub, and wondered what the approximate drop off is for the bass. Malcolm Posted October 28, 2002 Share Posted October 28, 2002 Bass starts to roll off around 100 Hz and is 3 dB down around 65 Hz. FWIW Heresys are made out of veneer core plywood. They don't fall that fast because their sealed enclosure, so you have to account for this in order to not have an emphasized mid bass region. j-malotky Posted October 28, 2002 Share Posted October 28, 2002 Lark What is the top end cut off of your subs? I would set your processor in between your subs top end and the Heresy's low end. Say 80 - 100 Hz. Maybe evan 120Hz is your subs go over that. Your subs will be a lot more efficent at those freq than the Heresys. boa12 Posted October 28, 2002 Share Posted October 28, 2002 larks, are these being used in a 5.1 or 2 speaker & sub set-up? regardless its virtually impossible to say where to set a crossover best to your ears w/ your dif equipment, room, tastes, ears, etc. this is where some experimentation & tweaking by you comes in handy. iow, best to let your own ears be the guide.
