John Warren
Early 60s top of the line 16.5" woofer from Japanese National (later National Panasonic). The basket is MACHINED from a solid billet of aluminum!! Motor structure consists of (6) .75 lb slugs of Alnico sandwiched between two 1/2" plates of ni-plated magnet iron. Notice the extra heavy-duty mounting flange. Finish is grey hammertone gloss. Structurally a very respectable driver. The basket webs are 1/2" thick! mike stehr
Since you posted a Japanese woofer, I attached is a pic of one of the vintage Jap speakers I scored today for 4 bucks. Coral 8CX-7 10w 16ohm coaxial. Fukuyo Sound Tokyo Japan. They are nothing on the scale like the Alnico milled billet monster you have shown, but worth 4 bucks! lynnm
The Corals were very highly regarded back in the 70's as I recall. Have you heard them in an enclosure ? Wheredahelll did you find them at that price ? What calibre iron were you packing ? Do not attempt to answer these questions until you have been officially released from the corner Where you go and feel sorry 'bout yourself. mike stehr
Lynn, I picked these up at a Thrift Store, (Value Village.) They came with some really cheap and ugly enclosures, so I don't think anyone paid attention to the drivers inside them. For all I know these could be the original boxes, but I kinda dought it. The store just checks to see if speakers work and throw a price tag on them. This is the second time I found some nice vintage speakers within a week for dirt cheap, I'm sure my run of luck has come to a end. But I really love my Norelcos! These are a DAMN good speaker for low watt peanut tube amps. But I also need that big Klipsch sound, Cornwalls soon!
