More of a convenience then necessary. I do like it but the one I bought it only works on certain tubes with the correct octal socket EL34 family of tubes. I learned about it on the Uncle Doug video's on youtube. His specialty is tube amplifiers, mostly guitar amplifiers. There is still some work for tube technicians restoring and repairing the the old tube guitar amplifiers for musicians.
