Bop ICOPI
I am thinking about getting a DD-5.1, but I need to know a few things. First, how would I hook these up to my speakers? Would I have to buy RCA cables and hook them up from the amp on the sub to the the decoder? And if so, how would I connect the subwoofer to it? Also, how would I connect the PM-5.1s directly to my PC digitally? I hear that some people who connect it through optical or coaxial only get 2 speakers to sound when in games\music. If anyone knows where I can find a manual to the DD-5.1s, that would help too.

Bop ICOPI
That solves alot of my questions, but would I be able to get 5.1 sound in games without the analog connection(i.e. using RCA or optical only)? Because if I can't then I'm going to buy an Audigy 2 instead.
justin_tx_16
only way for 5.1 games from the computer with true surrond sound is with a sound card that can do it. not the dd-51's fault, SPDIF's. there are not many 5.1 games but lots of 4.1's and the same situation stands. go with the audigy2. Bop ICOPI
Well I have a soundcard that can do true 5.1(Audigy 1). But I want to know if I hook up my speakers to the DD-5.1, then hook the DD 5.1 to my Audigy by the optical output on my Platinum drive, would I be able to get 5.1 sourround sound in windows\games like I do with the analogs? I use to have a Cambridge DTT3500 and I think that I only got 2 channels with optical(I tried the Audigy mixer thingy, the thing that says Front Left, Center, etc...). justin_tx_16
you will never, not with ANY DEVICE, get 5.1 or 4.1 gaming when connected digitally from a computer. unless the game is dolby digital or dts
Bop ICOPI
Ok, but dosn't the Megawords 510 and 550D have a SPDIF connection? My old set had a digital cable that was connected digitally to the back of my Audigy, the same output for the center\sub from the Klipsch's. Same thing with my DTT3500s, but too bad those speakers suck:P
justin_tx_16
any Creative system that ends with D has a digital input. Why do you ask?
Bop ICOPI
If creative systems are connected digitally, why can't Klipsch systems be connected digitally with 5.1 audio in non dolby/dts sound? Is there a huge difference between a miniplug and optical output?
justin_tx_16
no, no huge difference. with a digital connection you can not get surround sound gaming.... that is the big point here right?
Bop ICOPI
My DTT3500s and my Megaworks 510Ds were both connected digitally by a miniplug to the digital output on the back of the Audigy card and I recieved 5.1 sound in games with DX 8.1 like Battlefield 1942 and all my other EAX games. justin_tx_16
well i don't know what to tell you because by the specs of SPDIF it CANNOT send multichannel signals other than DTS or DD.

justin_tx_16
3 channel equals 2.1 Stereo and sub. not 4.1 or 5.1.
Bop ICOPI
Yeah but strangley enough I get 5.1 surround sound in everything from that one cable.
VampireHD
I bought some y-adapters from Radio Shack. Run two sets of audio cables, one from the analog outs on the sound card, and one from the outs on the DD-5.1, then plug them into the y-adapters (same channel (from DD-5.1 and sound card outs) on each adapter and plug the 3 adapters into the Promedia Sub. This will allow you to at least play EAX games using analog sound. And if you want digital output instead for movies and such, you only need to check the Digital Output Only box in your sound properties. Works great with my SB Audigy 2 Platinum. WaltC
Creative, makers of the MegaWorks and DTT's, use a proprietary plug with their digital out in the Audigies which carries the 5.1 digital signaling. Since it's proprietary this will only work with the Creative speakers which are made to work with 5.1 in this fashion. Standard digital connectors won't support it. I am debating whether I should get DD-5.1, I find myself playing less and less PC games, watch DVD with PS2, and there are some PS2 games with DTS support. is DTS support for PS2 getting popular? I only have it on grand theft auto: vice city. baaaaah, what to do...
