pnort
I have a 300b SET amp (Elekit 8600s) and 1972 Klipschorn speakers. The new Klipsch subwoofers seem attractive, but I don't have an amp with subwoofer output taps, just outputs for two speakers. I think the new subs have their own amps and was wondering if I could tap the woofer output of the Klipshorn crossovers to feed the subwoofer amp(s). The Khorns are 16 ohms. If I tapped off 1 % with a 1600 ohm resistor and fed that to the subwoofer, would that work? Once the subwoofer's volume is set, the the subs output should track the amplifier's volume control. I thought about tapping the amplifier's input but then the amplifier's volume wouldn't be tracked by the sub. Maybe someone has another thought. 82 Cornwalls
You can get an expensive (Russound ADP-1.2 $40) or inexpensive (car audio @ $20 or so) speaker to rca adapter. Run speaker wire from the amp to the converter and rca to the sub input. Or you can find a recipe for diy.
henry4841
All you need is a buffer with two outputs, one for power amp and one for sub. Possible just a inexpensive passive one. That or some of those cheap Y cables. I use a B1v2 buffer with two outputs to enable the use of a sub with my many amplifiers.

If yes, you can use Y cables to run one set (pun intended) of rca cables to amp and another set of rca cables to sub. If yes or no, you can use speaker to rca adapter (buy or diy). pnort
I use a Vincent Pho 701 preamp with my turntable, but it has no volume control. Other inputs (iPod, DVD, TV) do not have a preamp. I thought of tapping the speaker output after the Khorn's crossover output to its woofer to mimic a woofer output. Google search for B1v2 buffer turns up nothing quickly. Will the subwoofer output from the Russound ADP-1.2 make the sub's volume track the speaker volume? Thanks for all your thoughts

Thanks for all your thoughts How do you hook everything up to the Elekit, doesn't it just have 1 input? B1v2 is a Firstwatt product. Yes the Russound will act similar to a variable sub out. I have one, it works very well.

pnort
Elekit has volume control. Phono preamp has none. I have a switch between components and the Elekit to select the source. It's like this one-- https://www.ebay.com/itm/115742615137?chn=ps&mkevt=1&mkcid=28&srsltid=AfAwrE7e-XgM-GVJ8yrpQpGNhieB2TEe6oKPof1qtMCeotAU5C29jfXDebc, but not exactly the same.
82 Cornwalls
Speaker to rca converter is a good way to hook up an rca only sub in this situation.
pnort
I saw a suggestion today in another forum to use an audio jack to dual RCA connectors to tap the headphone port to link in the sub. Anyone done that?

SouthernBass
I have a similar set up I'm using a line output converter but I'm not sure if I'm getting optimal performance

They work the same as a powered subwoofer with speaker inputs.
