Geo1
This amp was recommended to me for the Quartets. It's 15wpc and made in Italy. Retail is about $1100 and a new demo was offered to me for $675. Anyone know this amp? Any thoughts?

lynnm
Here is a pic for the curious. There are numerous other options in the sub 1000.00 range but at $675.00 you will be unlikely to find much else NEW that will compete. The tube complement of 12AU7's driving 6BQ5's is a classic and will yield a sonic signature similar to the EICO HF 81 and that is a good sign indeed. Check out http://www.divertech.com and look at the AQ1003DT at $849.00 and the MG SI 15 DT at 749.00 . The MG is especially interesting as it offers the option of being operated as a 5 watt/channel SET. If you are willing to look at vintage amps then you will likely easily find a Scott 299 for $300.00 +/- or perhaps an EICO HF81 for a few dollars more. These are both GREAT little b*ggers but should be gone over by a tech. You will likely have to put in another 150.00 or so for upgrades and shipping though. Contact NOS Valves a member here who specialises in rebuilding Scotts but also rebuilds EICOs . Taken all around I would be inclined to buy that amp. I am sure you could recoup most if not all of your investment on eBay if you didn't love it. Hell ! With looks like that you might even turn a small profit! http://www.divertech.com/mgsi15dt.html' target=_blank>
Deang
Looks like straight up pentode, though they don't say. 23 lbs with 12au7's and EL-84 output tubes -- this thing probably sounds very good. 12 to 15 watts doesn't sound like much -- but it will be plenty unless you plan on jamming to some Korn at blistering levels Dual balance/volume drives some people nuts -- I think it's kind of neat. If you were paying list -- I would say another couple hundred and you start getting into some serious territory on the used market. However, at $675 -- I think you would be getting an outstanding deal. It also doesn't break my first commandment of audio purchasing: Thou shalt not buy ugly gear.
