Guy Landau
Randy, You can order the parts at http://solen.ca/ . I'll be going back home for a visit at the end of november. I know that I've 2 spare oil caps left. I had given them to the guy who bought my Khorns, and he probably doesn't need them. I hope he'll be willing to donate them to another Klipsch owner. Guy Landau
I've used the 10AWG but 12AWG will work fine too.
PAR69
RTaylor: Please post your findings/feelings because I need to improve my ALs as well and am probably going to build the ALKs, but if you like what you hear, I may reconsider. WMcD
Hey John, That is an interesting schematic. Can you tell us what years it was used? It looks to me that the mid is a first order with a zobel. I did some quick calculations and concluded it is effective at about 1200 Hz. The resistor makes the Q rather broad. I can only imagine it is cutting down on response of the mid a half octave on either side. I've not done a simulation. I makes me wonder whether the Klipsch people thought the mid was too loud in that range. The bass has a zobel too. That seems to take effect at 600 Hz. Again, I expect it is because of some issue in that range. Best, Gil
cwm
I wonder how the AA compares sonically to the others? I understand the schematics but wonder how all these variations come out in the listening mode? TIA.
JohnA
Hi Gil, I just noticed your question. The Type AL was used begining in 1982 when the K-55-M was first used. It was used in the La Scala for several years, but I'm not sure how many. I have never hears of a Type AL-2, so I believe it was used until the 90s when the AK-3 and AL-3 were issued. Since those 2 are so similar, I think AL-2 may have been skipped. The Type AL has a howl-ly sound around 300 Hz and something that makes it indistinct, probably ringing. Dynamat did not help my '87s much. Little brother has them now with the crossover we designed and they sound very nice in his room. I'm not a country music fan, but Trisha Yearwood has a beautiful voice and his system does it full justice.
