Chorus II's

Recommended Posts

Hello.

I just recently purchased a pair of 1989 Chorus II's

for $270 dollars.

Upon returning home, and hooking them up, after a

light clean up, one of them has a bunk tweeter.

(Figures).

Pulled the tweeter out, tried it straight off the

amp,(Thinking maybe X-over problems) nothin'.

Oddly, the horn has a 1995 sticker, with the

model #, (Which I forgot, And I put back in the

cabinet).

I did disassemble the tweeter and noticed no wire

breaks at the dome coil assembly, but the coil

didn't look too great.

Can a guy get replacement diaphram coils for the

tweeters for Chorus II's?

Crossovers:

A couple of questions here.

Why are their transformers in the X-over circuits?

What is their primary purpose?

These are T5a, 5 amp, I guess.

I noticed mine have a metal and a plastic covered

radial caps on the board,(Are these electrolytics? EEK)!

A couple of film caps, then a little iron core

inductor for the mid I guess, and a large inductor

with a big retangular iron core.

These speakers are screaming for a crossover upgrade!

Can anyone help me out?

These speakers serial #'s don't really match,

but the the two same people that inspected and tested them have their signatures on each cabinet.

Strange.

Other than that, I'm really starting to like

these speakers, they're black, great shape,

and make my sansui sp-x9's look like bookshelf speakers.

Can you source replacement tweeters or replacement

coils for these speakers?

Has anyone done any crossover mods to the

Chorus's?

Your reply's are greatly appreciated, for I

want to get these things dialed in and

going a.s.a.p.

Thank you very much,

Mike Stehr.

Mike - First off, you will get no sympathy from anyone here for paying a whole $270 for a pair of Chorus' with a blown tweeter!!! Those things usually go for about $700-$800+ a pair, so you are one lucky dude Smile.gif!

For replacement parts, call the tech support guys at Klipsch 1-800-KLIPSCH, Trey or Matt. They'll help with all that.

Anyone know of crossover mods?

The guy I bought my ChorusII's from got them from a dealer who thought the wrote in shipping numbers on the boxes were the serial numbers. They were consecutive. The typed in serial numbers on the box labels are off by a couple numbers. These too have the same signatures on both speaker labels. Hey...I wonder if YOU have one of mine and I have one of yours??! Ha! Well, they look like they match to me! They sure sound like it too .......Anyway, for $270.00..what do you want mister??!

Take care Mike

Hello again.

Thanks for the replys.

Will call Klipsh for replacement tweeter or tweeters.

These speakers seem to have mid and tweet horns that

are dated 1995.(Didn't check the woofers).

I did notice today, the the other side has a mid

that doesn't work.

Upon checking out, the mid works fine, but the

midrange circuit on the X-over does not.

I took the working tweeter from the speaker with

the bunk mid circuit in the X-over and installed it

it in the speaker with the fried tweeter.

It's crossover works with all three drivers.

So I could hear one the proper way.

Nice!

So I definitely have a crossover problem as well

as a blown tweeter.

These crossovers may could have been the reason why

the drivers have been replaced in 1995 or so.

or possibly, the last owner of these had a 440 watt yamaha poweramp, with a 35 watt pre-amp, a 30 band e.q, and a sony changer.

(this gear was piled up on the speakers when I bought

them at the thrift store on the airbase I work at).

The guy lost them due to W.A.F.

This 440 watt yamaha had to weigh as much as one of those chorus's, it was heavy.

I've come to the conclusion that this guy was probably

abusive to these speakers with this yamaha gear,

it could be why the drivers were replaced in '95 or so.

Has anyone done any crossover mods to the Chorus II's?

Anyone!?

At least the values to those inductors?

Help!

These are the first 'real' speakers I ever had.

I'm really like these things and can't wait to get

them both going and enjoy the music.

A good speaker deal can be a real pain in the butt

for a guy with limited cash.

I feel real fortunate.

THANX!

Mike Stehr.
