JohnWhite
What would be the best way to remove a black lacquer finish from a pair of La Scala's?
JohnA
Chemical paint stripper and elbow grease.
Daddy Dee
John, Yes, and I would echo the elbow grease part. One thing that is possible, and perhaps even likely, that there will be some black stain in the grain that goes so deep you will not be able to remove it. Care should be taken not to sand through the veneer, which is thin. I read one post where someone refinishing black scalas noted that he liked the little remaining black stained grain as a complement to the finish. JohnWhite
Thanks, there's a pair on ebay for $800 about an hours drive away! Just wondering how much work would be involved in restoring them. the seller didn't post a pic of the actually speakers but pulled a pic off of klipsch's site i think. Q-Man
Re-paint them black if they need it. Once you go black there is no going back. You will never get all the black out of the grain, and it's very hard to sand in the LaScala mouth.
Istari
Q-Man sez: "Once you go black there is no going back" I've heard that before but it wasn't related to painting..... No personal experience in that field.....
