White01L
You are a good man for going back and taking everything and leaving the "old" man the money. As far as hooking it up, yeah I would do the same, but I would hook it up to some cheap speakers first.
mike stehr
Those output transformers on that amp appear to be decent size.(For a SE 6BQ5 amp.) Might not be a bad single ended amp. What would you want for that power amp sans tubes?

It sounds OK. Nothing like the 299D though.

AndyKubicki
Hmmm, If Mike doesn't want it let me know...I might be willing to play with this one...I can't tell you how many garage sales I've been to last summer and never find stuff like this... AndyKubicki
Mike, I didn't mean to cut in...I meant that if you changed your mind for some reason that I wish to be second in line, but you asked first and you should get first consideration....besides, truth be known, I would have to wait a week or two myself . fini
What's the price on the amp & pre/tuner? (just curious, I'm not in line)
Tuubvac
The unit on Ebay in Cloumbus Ohio, appears to have the 680A Amp. These are primo amps! It's almost identical to the power amp section of the 500C receiver. I came across the amp and preamp out of a "Futura" console (model F-58) a couple years ago. It sat on a shelf for months till I got around to tinkering wiyh it. I hooked it up to a pair of Fisher xp-9C speakers and Thorens turntable and fired it up. I got the surprise of my life! The thing sounded just flat out amazing! Better soundstage and three dimensionality than either my 400 receiver, x202c amp, or my 500C! No BS here! I sold it last year just before a major move and I've regretted that ever since. I just got another preamp/tuner and amp off Ebay and this one will not get away! These are fine units and I wouldn't rush to cut it up til you have a chance to really listen to it. Walt
