Champagne taste beer budget
Just off the phone with HD, they carry 14 and 16 gauge CL-3 rated, the 14 is $.32/ft. No 12 available, not even special order. Then called the local HT "specialists" he said roughly $.40/ft for 14 gauge, which he very seldom uses, and laughed when I said I wanted 12 gauge, said there'd be no reason to have such thick speaker wires. Then I called Rat Shack, he sid he had NO inwall in stock, but that he could order 14 gauge if I wanted to buy a spool of 500 feet for $135. Maybe I'll just use non-rated and skip the homeowners insurance, seems a lot easier to me!!
michael hurd
Beer budget - How long are your runs? 16 gauge is plenty up to 55-60 feet for an 8 ohm speaker with no loss.
Champagne taste beer budget
The room is approximatly 22 x 17, call it 40 feet around the perimeter from center of one wall to center of opposite wall. Makes for an 80 ft run if you figure the wire goes both to the speaker, and back to the amp. 14 would probably work, but would rather spend a couple extra bucks in the room building stage than find out I end up with some hard to drive speaks "X" years down the road and don't want to run new wires. Don't plan on it, but trying to consider all options.
michael hurd
14 gauge would be plenty, and if you are worried, then get 4 conductor 14 gauge and double up the conductors, it will be a lot cheaper in the long run. Parts express has 14 gauge 4 conductor wire, with a cl3 rating, for $33.80 / 100 foot roll ( 33.8 cents / foot. Part # is 100-768. They also carry Monster inwall cable at 3 times the price for the same gauge and number of conductors ( $ 1.05 / foot ).

Some called the TRS-80 the "Trash 80." ---------------- Ah yes, how I so fondly remember the venerable TRaSh-80, complete with TRaSh-DOS. That was where I got my start in programming. I haven't seen one of those in years, now. I do still have a working Commadore-64 setup in my basement. I also just picked up an old TI-99/4e that one of my friends was just going to get rid of. I'll have to hook it up and see if it works.
BBB
Didn't Rob Zombie film most of "House of a Thousand Corpses" in a Radio Shack? All his actors were found there waiting to buy watch batteries since 1985.
CO1
Don't know if it was mentioned but Rat Shack in Canada was bought by Circut City. Wonder how that will go?
Champagne taste beer budget
micheal, thanks for the Parts Express idea and PN. That looks like it would do the trick without costing me $200 for speaker wire. Nothing personal, griff. I could get enough to do all the speaks with two rolls and still have enough left over to possibly run some outside, to the garage, or wherever, with money left over for more interesting things than speaker wire. OldMojo
I bought my wire here: http://mcm.newark.com/NewarkWebCommerce/mcm/en_US/support/catalog/productDetail.jsp?id=24-1130 12 gauge, clear insulator, polarity marked the length of the wire. $117 for a 250 foot roll They also have good prices on patch cables, plugs and such. I'm pretty happy
