Sub not on floor

I would also come to that conclusion. This is probably because of the reflective components behind the sub. When it is corner loaded you get all those great sound waves directed toward the listening areas. When it is against only one surface (or two including the floor) then it has a chance to disperse up and to the sides and not retain those reflective qualities it had in the corner. Lifting it from yet another reflective surface (the floor) would disperse those sound waves even more and be even less directed toward the listening area. Kind of like a shot gun instead of a long barrel rifle if you know what I mean.
