radiob
I just purchased a VPI HW 16.5 record cleaner new in box from a local dealer. When I turn on the motor, the motor seems to have a odd sound, like a bearing going bad, type noise. Is this normal? I read the manual and it says the motor is noisey, but it sounds like bearings going bad. Anyone have this unit? What a difference a clean LP makes! Audio Flynn
Mine is an ugly noisey bugger as well. Really interesting motor and gear design to still move the platter when you turn on the really strong vacuum.

ShapeShifter
I have the VPI HW-17, it makes a god-awful noise too!
Guy Landau
Mine was very noisey. Somehow I managed to kill the motor (actually, the drive gears) and ordered a new motor which is very quiet.
