Shock-Late
Hi guys! I'm adressing to the x-over gurus here: in my small bedroom, I'd like to use a small set of loudspeakers with a simple passive sub. But there's no passive x-over provided. What's the easiest way to do it? I guess I need a simple, passive x-over around 100Hz or something. the satellites are 8 ohms I think, the sub is a dual speaker/4 ohms design. It doesn't have to be "real hi-fi". Could someone give me a simple schematic? thanks guys! Frans
3dzapper
Take one of these and call me in the morning. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=3276&item=5721302895&rd=1 And it has outputs for a dual voice coil sub. Al Klappenberger
Frans, A good crossover at 100 Hz needs to be an active crossover. To do it with L-C filters is not practical becasue the part values become extremely large. When you do find them, they are only a single element (6 dB / octave) located inside the sub and operate through loudspeaker terminals. The active type are often 24 dB / octave "Linkawitz-Riley" (spelling?) types. These is much better. This is what I am using with my Belles. I am crossing at 70 Hz. and running into the "LFE" input to the sub. Al K.
