I have researched Theta Digital and Meridian and find them to be first class machines.

used would be most likely about as much money as the DAC unless you find a real deal.

i had my nice Denon tuned up with a new laser for $ 200 at a reputable shop.

It has only skipped 2 CDs in 6 months; they were a bit dirty.

Guy Landau had a Marantz CDR-620 for sale, which has a cast platter mechanism. Makes for a stellar transport, though only has XLR balanced analog I/O. It offer AES/EBU XLR or S/PDIF RCA digital out. No lightpipe, as this predates its popularity. As a bonus, it makes excellent records, and is built like a brick sh!tbarn. On the downside, the remote is wired only, and thay are getting up there in years. I don't know if Guy ended up selling his or not. I bought his spare and use it in my recording studio.

The CDR-615 has the same mechanism, but with unbalanced outputs, and I think it lacks the AES digital hookups.
