Tomski
Hello,I have been reviewing this site heavily in the past year, but this is my first post. I bought my walnut cornwalls new in 1983. 21yrs old and I bet they will still sound incredible in another 21yrs from now! I have used only H/K recievers since 1979. models #470 680i 990vxi and now the avr525 still have the 680 and 990 I believe H/K Klipsch make a great combo! Now I have several questions in regards to my cornwalls. 1.is Liquid Gold ok to use on the cornwalls? 2.im using 8awg thhn wire for the cornwalls are there any negatives to this other than stiffness 3.thinking of replacing my crossovers on the cornwalls How much does it cost diy or assemled and from who. 4.what gauge/brand of wire would be good to replace the internal wiring. Thanks for any feedback!! I listen mostly to two ch.stereo and im still in awe of the sound from my cornwalls!! Frzninvt
1.is Liquid Gold ok to use on the cornwalls? Yes! I think it works better than Lemon Oil and a few other products out there. 2.im using 8awg thhn wire for the cornwalls are there any negatives to this other than stiffness. That is pretty heavy gauge wire but it should not pose any problems for you. 3.thinking of replacing my crossovers on the cornwalls How much does it cost diy or assemled and from who. Great idea! Much to be gained here, talk to DeanG, Bob Crites, or Al Klappenberger. You can go the DIY route or have them work you up a pair. ALK no longer produces the Type "B" Cornwall crossover but he does provide the plans to do so. DeanG will work you up a real nice pair with Auricaps for about $300 (Please confirm with him though). 4.what gauge/brand of wire would be good to replace the internal wiring. I would say 10-12 Gauge from the input to the crossover, and the crossover to the woofer. 14Ga to the midrange and tweeter will work great. Hope this helps! Welcome to the forum! J.4knee
Welcome to the zoo! I agree with all of what FRZN said here, the only things I would add is another source for crossovers is John Warren. Dean, John, Bob and Al all do exceptional work and will assist you anyway they can. They are each very stand up guys. I upgraded my La Scala crossovers with Al's kits and it was like doing a $5K upgrade for about $450 for 3 La Scala's. Unbelievable improvement. With 21-year-old networks they definitely need to be upgraded, your components have likely drifted off spec and the upgrade to newer better components will astound you. Gold luck and enjoy. Tomski
Thanks for the quick responses(frzninvt,J.4knee)I think im going to try to buy a set of crossovers allready made. I can only assume what Frzninvts full heritage sound is like, must be incredible. Eventually will replace my ksb3.1 with a set of hereseys, also looking into tube amps Jolida,DIY and speaker cable leaning towards gauge of the cable being more important than brand/style and much better bang 4the buck. Deang
"ALK no longer produces the Type "B" Cornwall crossover but he does provide the plans to do so." Actually, I build them for Al under license, so they're still available in built up form.
