dkp
This is a great buy right now-we picked it up at CC for $10 (minus 15% for buying three DVDs). It's a movie, but I haven't even watched it yet because it has most of the music recorded in the "Special Features" section. Recorded in DD 5.1 EX and dts 6.1. The music is superb. Here is a list, since the tracks are not listed on the back of the cover. Best track is #8 by Joan Osborne, "What becomes of the brokenhearted." Stunning. This woman can belt out a tune with the best of 'em. 1) Gerald Levert - Reach Out I'll Be There. 2) Joan Osborne - (Love is Like A) Heatwave. (A close 2nd to her other track) 3) Meshell Ndegeocello - You Really Got A Hold On Me 4) Bootsy Collins - Do You Love Me 5) Gerald Levert & Tom Scott - Shotgun 6) Ben Harper - Ain't Too Proud To Beg 7) Bootsy Collins - Cool Jerk 8) Ben Harper - I Heard it Through The Grapevine 9) Joan Osborne - What Becomes of the Brokenhearted 10) Meshell Ndegeocello - Cloud Nine 11) Chaka Khan - What's Going On 12) The Funk Brothers - (no music here) 13) Chaka Khan & Montell Jordan - Ain't No Mountain High Enough If you aren't dancing by track #4, you need to have an EKG done right away. RobbL
You are absolutely correct RE: Standing in the Shadows of Motown...and Joan Osborne is hotter than July on this DVD; the whole flick is simply wonderful. The DTS audio is superb! Really kind of amazing to me that such a great story, a terrific DVD, and some of the best tunes in recorded history get so little recognition in the "gotta have it" collection. Sad, isn't it? theryugobuddy
Don't buy the Funk Brothers Millenium collection, though-- I bought it after seeing this movie, and its just Motown hits played with a dated organ playing the vocal parts. Sounds like Motown Muzak--
