tglahn17
Hi, all, Happy Thanksgiving. I've been looking for a pair of Chorus IIs for a while. I saw these on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=5732683126&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT What do you think of the damage on the passives? The seller says that he used a rubber compound to repair them. Should I bid on them? Thanks,
greg928gts
These look like they've been beat on a little bit. The repairs on top of the speakers with black touch up paint are what concern me. I think you're going to find that they are not in very good cosmetic condition. Probably the repairs on the passive's are o.k., and I doubt they will affect the sound quality. I know these are nearby to you, but my advice is to be patient and hold out for nicer ones with natural wood finish instead of black. lynnm
I don't consider THAT minor damage! Those PRs probably sound OK but I'd wait 'til something better comes along. The guy is asking something close the selling price of undamaged goods. They might be worth picking up at $300-350 in that condition.
tglahn17
Thanks! Do you think this is a good price? http://cls.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?spkrfull&1106323378 Thanks,
stan krajewski
I think for $900.00 they should be perfect. Plus the Chorus I is what I would buy. Less to go wrong. They have no passives. My brother has Chorus I's and they sound beautiful. Patience and speed is the key here.
garymd
I wouldn't pay $900 but if you can get them for around $600-700 it wouldn't be a bad deal. Personally, for that kind of money, I'd buy cornwalls.
tglahn17
Thanks! What does the passive radiator do? Thanks,
colterphoto1
The black ebay pair are sick. not in a good way. The small patched punctures are of no concern, however the rip across one of the passives will probably not hold, despite the neat repair attempt. The cabinets on these are probably way worse than the photos show. The passive radiator is a way to focus the back waves from the woofer into usable bass energy, much like a port. The mass of the passive cone (no magnet or voice coil) dampens the cabinets internal acoustic energy and delivers it in the form of somewhat extended bass response. My opinion is that I'd rather have straight ported bass energy, like Cornwalls, because they sound tighter and arent' so very particular in terms of placement, so GARYMD has hit it right on the head. Or look for Chorus originals. Unless you prefer black, any well-cared for real wood product will have more value and WAF. Keep on shoppin' Hope this helped. tglahn17
Thanks! I just posted another topic on Chorus I vs. II http://forums.klipsch.com/idealbb/view.asp?topicID=57337&sessionID={D002557D-469F-40E4-BCFF-AD35043A52A6}. Do you think the Is without the passives would sound tighter in the bass than the IIs? Are the few extra Hz deeper bass in the IIs noticeable? Thanks,
