robster
I've decided to upgrade to a better turntable from my mint 1984 AR ES-1 table. Been waiting for a used VPI Scout to show up,well just now one for $1100 with JMW9 tonearm just showed up on Audigon,ad sez it's 2 yrs. old mint unused. My question,is there a big difference in a 2-year old Scout and a 2004 Scout? Cheers, Robert
3dzapper
$500! He says that it's brand new in the box too, GO FOR IT!!! Robert, further down is a Scout dust cover for $35 ask your seller if one is included. If not save a few more dollars. Rick
No Disc
My VPI Scout cost $1400 new from Elusive Disc. The newer Scout with the JMW-9 tonearm has a Dropped Counterweight. You can get one from VPI for $50-60. No Disc
jazman
Tim, Does a new Scout ship with the 300 rpm motor upgrade also? If not, I think it can be purchased for $125. Klipsch out.
ben.
I don't think so. My Scout (originally purchased in Mar 04) had paperwork that listed the 300RPM motor as an upgrade. What's the benefit? Less noise, more stable speed?
No Disc
The Scout remains a 300rpm motor. It is standard on the Scoutmaster. Yes the upgrade is $120 (new motor and spindle, user installable) Spinning at 300 rpm vs 600 rpm gives you less noise from the motor. You hear more of the music and less of the noise. Take off the belt once and put a stethoscope on the plinth or platter and hear what I mean. No Disc
ben.
Gotcha. Makes sense.

No phono stage, amplifier, or speakers needed.
ben.
Heh. Talk about a low-power amp!
