Talk about doing things the hard way...a better approach would be to cut the slices slightly oversize and fill in the "steps" with plaster or putty. Use a sheet metal tool of the correct profile to smooth down the surface and there you go.

Also, many DIYers don't realize how many computer numerically controlled (CNC) milling machines there are out there. If the set up fee is not too high, each slice could be cut exactly the first time. Most CNC machines do not have the reach to make the entire depth of a midrange horn in one pass, but it should be possible to cut the number of slices in half.
