Absolute Power Cord Comparisons

if you want a "mystical" answer about the delightful properties of ANY aftermarket power cable - go over to the home theater talk forum

http://hometheatertalk.com/httalk/index.php

THAT forum does not allow anyone to critize any sort of tweak - no matter how much of a B.S. product it is...... you can read long threads about how a gold-plated fuse improves the sound and other items of total B.S. without having to worry about ANY science being interjected

it is a simple fact was mentioned already in this thread.... if your cable is of sufficient thickness - a different geometry, construction, or outer jacket CANNOT alter the sound in any way

do a search on this forum for "power cord"...... a recent thread titled "AC Power Cords" pretty much lays out all the science that shows it is impossible for a power cord to change the sound coming out of your speakers

if you are into audio jewelry and you like the pretty outer jacket - go for it! but try not to delude yourself that it alters the sound

if there was ANY scientific support for the position that power cables could possibly change/improve/alter the sound, it would be posted on the websites of EVERY aftermarket power cable manufacturer..... do some reading on these websites and you will not find ONE scientific explanation about how their product alters the sound....

you will find pages and pages of construction diagrams and "pseudo-science" of why it is supposed to alter the sound....

there will probably be a few posters here who will jump into this thread and tell you how their aftermarket cords "improved their sound dramatically" and other such impossibilities..... but there is absolutely no scientific support for any such claims.... these posters are prime examples of the placebo effect

It simply amaze,s me that that the last 5 feet of a power cord can be any better than the rest of the Romex wire behind the wall.

Great post! Audio marketing is the biggest bunch of bull and hype, I can think of any market.... sheesh.

But in the end, it is fun to have stuff that looks good too. Especially if it is in your house. The reall issue is to find the coolest, cheapest "looking good" stuff available!

Regarding the reference to ferrite... if you have a problem with induced EMI, first I would seek to eliminate the source. But failing that, I would simply purchase a clamp-on ferrite bead and sleep easier...that is as long as you have already lined your hat with tin foil.

The bottom line is that the after-market accessory market provides the highest profit margin in this industry! From the point of view of a reseler, if they want to buy it and it causes no real harm, why not sell it... It's YOUR responsibility to be an informed consumer!!!
