What did they cost new?

Heresys in 1980 were about $362 each for the lacquer finish, so $724 a pair. Current price is around $1150 a pair I believe.

In a May 1, 1963 pricelist, Heresies go from $84 (12" extended range driver in unfinished plywood to $221 (3 way in satin finished walnut.) The 1979 Audio magazine lists Heresies for $310 - presumably fully finished and loaded. The 1980 Audio shows the price as having popped to $380.

The same references show Cornwalls ranging from $256 ("unfinished fir plywood," 12" woofer-has anyone ever seen one of these?) to $408 ("Walnut with satin lacquer" 15" woofer). 1979 = $495, 1980 = $674.

For the record, LaScalas are 1979 = $660 1980 = $772 The school where I worked bought a pair in the mid seventies for $525 each. (wonder who put them up to that?)

Belles 1979 = $2,025 (!!! per pair, maybe) 1980 = $1,119

and

Klipshorn in "Deluxe hand rubbed finish" 1963 = $852 1979 = $935 1980 = $1,293.

I remember my Cornwalls (in "Decorator" pine) were $369 each in 1973. That was a lot of hours working in the campus mailroom. Worth every minute, too.

It's easy to forget just how bad inflation was in those days. Klipsch was not alone in these sizeable price jumps. For instance the

JBL Paragon goes from $4,800 in 1979 to $5,800 in 1980, while the L-50 hops from $325 to $350. The Bose 901 also pops over 10% - from $859 to $950.

I hope this helps a little. Your main branch of the public library may carry Audio magazine on microfilm-I know St. Louis' does. The October issues have the equipment guides.
