iXtreme
I think all HDTV's with the component video cable inputs support progressive scan technology ------------------ Why do you like playing around with my little scope of reality? I can feel it all start slipping away..... See but I don't get it, don't you think maybe we can put it on credit? I get stupified. It's all the same... Kain
So you are saying that this will not support Progressive Scan because it is not a HDTV, right?
eq_shadimar
Humm this is a tough question. I looked at the specs and while it does have a DVD component input it does not mention that it supports 480p. My experience is that all HDTV's will list the modes that they support (480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i, etc..). Since this information is not provided my best guess would be that it will not support the 480p output of a progressive scan DVD player. Maybe you will have to call Sony to find out for sure. avman
just saw your post, this tv should support progressive scan. the 'drc' (digital reality creation) circuitry is an up-conversion process (similar to line doubling)that hi-def.ready sonys have to remove horizontal scan lines. the only reason i'm not ABSOLUTELY sure about prog.scan compatability is because of the international video format compatability, i deal in u.s.a. video product. avman. ------------------ 1-pair klf 30's c-7 center sony strda-777ES receiver NEW! sony playstation 2! dishnetwork model 7200 dishplayer satellite receiver/digital bitstream recorder pioneer dvd player sharp 35"tv panamax max dbs+5 surge protector/power conditioner monster cable interconnects/12 gua.speaker wire surrounds and a 'teens sub coming! Kain
I am getting the KV-ES34M80, it has DCR-1250 and DCR-100. But the cheaper model (KV-EX34M87) has DCR-1250 and DCR-Progressive. Does this mean the ES does not support Progressive Scan? How come the cheaper model does?
Kain
BTW, there are three DRC technologies. DRC-1250 DRC-Progressive DRC-100 KV-ES34M80 KV-EX34M87 Click on the two TVs to see their full specs. You will see that the ES has DRC-1250 and DRC-100. But the EX has DRC-1250 and DRC-Progressive. Edit: I think DRC-Progressive is different to Progressive Scan. On the site it says it creates excellent STILL images. Kain
Crap, I haven't gotten a reply from Sony yet. Anyone else here know if the KV-ES34M80 supports Progressive Scan?
boa12
& if u run component thru a receiver, u might want to make sure it supports those like 480p, 720p, 1080i, etc.
avman
climbin' out on a limb again-drc progressive should be an UPCONVERSION technique which takes incoming video and line-doubles to 480p-this tv SHOULD support progressive scan.avman. ------------------ 1-pair klf 30's c-7 center sony strda-777ES receiver NEW! sony playstation 2! dishnetwork model 7200 dishplayer satellite receiver/digital bitstream recorder pioneer dvd player sharp 35"tv panamax max dbs+5 surge protector/power conditioner monster cable interconnects/12 gua.speaker wire surrounds and a 'teens sub coming! Kain
But remember, I was the ES34M80, not the EX34M87. The ES has DRC-1250 and DRC-100. But the CHEAPER model (EX) has DRC-1250 and DRC-Progressive.
avman
ok-my point is usa drc sonys output 480p as 480p. they up-convert 480i to 960i, and display 1080i as 1080i. you may wind up w/a better picture up-converting the output of your dvd player vs. 480p. avman. ------------------ 1-pair klf 30's c-7 center sony strda-777ES receiver NEW! sony playstation 2! dishnetwork model 7200 dishplayer satellite receiver/digital bitstream recorder pioneer dvd player sharp 35"tv panamax max dbs+5 surge protector/power conditioner monster cable interconnects/12 gua.speaker wire surrounds and a 'teens sub coming! Kain
avman, are you saying that the picture from a NON Progressive Scan DVD player on a Sony DCR TV will be better than a Progressive Scan DVD player on a "normal" TV? Sorry, I am confused. This message has been edited by KAiN64 on 09-09-2001 at 09:35 AM
avman
YES!!a non-hd ready tv can only do so much,it CANNOT make use of a progressive-scan output. sony's drc circuitry will 'up-convert' or 'picture-improve' ANY incoming video (except 480p which will be displayed as 480p, and 1080i-which is a hd signal and will be displayed as 1080i). what i'm also saying is that while 'on paper' it seems that a prog.scan dvd player should look better on a hd ready tv, the sony's unique up-conversion process to 960i may be as good a picture, and the tv you are inquiring about SHOULD up-convert to 960i, but also has the capability of displaying 480p from a prog.scan dvd player. avman. ------------------ 1-pair klf 30's c-7 center sony strda-777ES receiver NEW! sony playstation 2! dishnetwork model 7200 dishplayer satellite receiver/digital bitstream recorder pioneer dvd player sharp 35"tv panamax max dbs+5 surge protector/power conditioner monster cable interconnects/12 gua.speaker wire ksps-6 surrounds and a 'teens sub coming! avman
get the tv, if you have a dvd player now, don't rush to get a p.s. dvd player until you can do more research. as i learn more about the pros/cons of p.s. dvd players w/this type of tv i'll post. avman. ------------------ 1-pair klf 30's c-7 center sony strda-777ES receiver NEW! sony playstation 2! dishnetwork model 7200 dishplayer satellite receiver/digital bitstream recorder pioneer dvd player sharp 35"tv panamax max dbs+5 surge protector/power conditioner monster cable interconnects/12 gua.speaker wire ksps-6 surrounds and a 'teens sub coming!
