Gnomore
Does anyone know how thick the wood vaneer is on the KLFs? The reason I ask is that I have a black pair of 20s and was wondering if its possible to sand them down to the bare wood and stain. Has anyone tried this or know if it can be done? -Gno
T2K
nomo, gosh didn't I read of someone here that had Oak 20's that wanted to paint them black? Sounds like a swap would be the easiest solution! :^) Keith ------------------ KSP-300 FL/R KSP-C6 CENTER SW8II C/SUB KSP-S6 SURR KSP300 SB SW12II SONY KP53XBR35 RP DENON 3801 DENON DVD3300 DVD-AUDIO SONY MDP455 LDP ACURUS 125X5 ACURUS 100X3 MONDIAL M.A.G.I.C. Gnomore
Anyone know? I don't want to trade because I'm not doing it right now and am not sure what color we will stain it. -Gno
T2K
nomo, the veneer is really thin.I imagine even if you sanded or melted(via chemical)the black lacquer paint off the speakers, the paint in the open grain of the oak veneer would be hard to remove for staining. But then again,I don't really know what I'm talking about! Q-Man
Keith, I think you know what your talking about. Stop using that excuse Don't try it you will end up sanding the veneer off. Q. ------------------ Q-Man
Gnomore
So I guess my only option would be to glue another layer of vaneer on the speakers and stain that. Hmm..

You could probably get away with staining them 'dark walnut', but golden oak is most likely out.
Klipschguy
I bet chemical paint stripper (methylene chloride based) would lift every bit of that old finish off and in a hurry. Note: once you start with the paint stripper, you're committted to the project. Regards, KG
