nomo,gosh didn't I read of someone here that had Oak 20's that wanted to paint them black? Sounds like a swap would be the easiest solution! :^)

nomo,the veneer is really thin.I imagine even if you sanded or melted(via chemical)the black lacquer paint off the speakers,the paint in the open grain of the oak veneer would be hard to remove for staining.But then again,I don't really know what I'm talking about!

Yes, but only to repaint... Acetone will strip the lacquer, but the oak remains dark and the grain does pose the problems cited above. You could probably get away with staining them 'dark walnut', but golden oak is most likely out.
