WMcD
Attached to the frame below is an article by PWK. I believe I posted this before but now I can't find it. Gil
WMcD
There is a reason for the post just now. BEC is interested in a second version of the 500-5000 crossover which uses an auto transformer. What is shown may be it. The text mentions a 500 Hz crossover. The mid is a passband design which is not what is used in the AA. Now you know what I know. Daddy Dee
Gil, Thanks, good stuff.
BEC
Gil, I think you have found a third version of the K-500-5000. The one you have shown uses the autotransformer for only the squawker. The one in the 1963 Khorns uses the autotransformer for both the tweeter and the squawker. Guess there could be even more versions. filmboydoug
off topic but that was a way cool AR2 ad. Thanks Gil.
WMcD
Yes, I wouldn't doubt that there some other variations out there. I did look at the autotransformer one you posted. Nice research. I'd think that there was, at times, use of many different drivers at all three locations. E.g. There was a University tweeter. I don't know if the T-35 version without the phase plug was ever used by PWK. There were various mids and woofers. Someplace there was a shift away from the 16 ohm spec. = = = I've posted stuff I've found at Chicago Public Library from time to time. As pointed out, the ads and articles on other equipment are a real hoot. Our antique gems were commonplace. Best, Gil

Deang
"The one in the 1963 Khorns uses the autotransformer for both the tweeter and the squawker." That speaker uses a 16 ohm tweeter? Was the autoformer used to step up, instead of to step down?
BEC
Dean, Yes, the tweets are 16 ohm. The autotransformer takes both the tweeter and squawker down 3 db (measured). Bob
Deang
I just saw your schematic in the other thread. Interesting -- both off the same tap. I always wondered if that would work.
BEC
In case someone wants to see what these old crossovers from 1963 Khorns look like, here is a before and after the rebuild I just did on them. Bob Crites
