crazytubepower
They need to be able to be laid on their sides, so I was thinking about an rb-3 or 5 since you can rotate the horn. Any other sugestions, They will be near field and I would like to stay under $300 and the further the better. Want good sound here without spending alot for now. colterphoto1
I have purchased some excellent RB5's for about $320 per pair. So good used RB3's should be under $300 per pair. The horns will rotate, but a warning that the 3 and 5 have large rear ports that might not like the bookshelf arrangement. These also are in real wood veneers so they look great (my 3's are blonde maple, 5's in oak). If you are going to be close to them, the dispersion won't really come into play, so you might reconsider and get a pair of RB25 or 35, they have the port in front, are slightly taller, but not as deep as the previous series. If you really want to save some money, depending on how critical you'll be listening to these, perhaps something like KSB1.2 might do. You can get them really inexpensively on ebay or closeout at stores. Michael
crazytubepower
Well they will be on provittli monitor stands, so the port will have room. The Rb-35's are out of my budget, I have heard the 25, 35, 75. The 35 is way better than the 35 and the 75 even more, but cant get that, so I think it is the rb-3's. It will be for late night listening when I dont want to start up tubes and all that, plus it will be playing all night. Music helps me sleep. So it should have pretty good sq, any other sugestions welcome, even ones other than klipsch if you dare. I have yet to hear a speaker company I like better than klipsch, but you can try. Everything is worth a listen.
Parrot
You've developed a bad habit, listening to music while falling asleep. I suggest you wean yourself, and sooner rather than later. Don't you want to be able to hear burglars breaking into your home?
colterphoto1
RB3's it is! Any color in particular? We'll put out an APB.
crazytubepower
Well as too hearing bugulars, It is at super low volumes, If you were outside the room you couldnt hear it. I can hear my ac and all that. And anything that is going on. And color would be maple, it matches my desk. Thanks for the APB, lol
colterphoto1
you know that's probably the rarest. Have you seen it? It is very blonde, not the honey maple color that most furniture is. Almost white. Would oak be a second choice? Michael
sunburnwilly
CTP ,old KG 1.2's are fantastic bookshelf speakers ! I loved mine but have since sold them . They Rock On as we speak !
crazytubepower
yeah, I have seen the finish in person, I know the color, I would also consider black as that is the color of my rf-3's. There is a pair still in the box on ebay that I may bid on.
ChrisK
You might try and find a pair of Dynaco A-25's on eBay or Craigslist. I read way too much online opinion before buying my first pair and was shocked at how good they sound. I now have 3 pairs. They run about 50-100 a pair in need of some TLC and can easily be re-finished (they are real wood) and parts are readily available if necessary. I have a pair out in my garage hooked up to a Scott 299B (redux by NOSValves), Sansui TU-717 and my son's Sony Walkman. This system sounds astonishingly good. Chris This picture is not one of mine, but you can get the idea.
Frzninvt
KG 1.2's are rear ported and won't perform well on a shelf. The KG1 is sealed and would work perfectly, they sound wonderful and are real wood veneer not plastic and not made in China either. If you were going to put them on a shelf I would recommend the KG 2.2's or KG 2.5's - very nice bookshelf speakers.
Kudret
Chris, I have a pair of Dynaco A-35's which are said to have deeper bass than A-25's, otherwise very similar. Mine are completely stock and they sounded very dull to me when I first tried them a couple of years ago - they've been in storage since then. I guess some fresh capacitors in the crossovers could bring them back to life., but that will have to wait until I upgrade the crossovers in my Khorns first. I've veen using Heresys in my bedroom system with Scott 222D and 310E tuner and they are amazing. Heresys occupy too much space in the bedroom however and I might have to find a smaller pair to replace them soon. Kudret
colterphoto1
Are those dynaco's similar to the Advent two way speakers of yesteryear? Those were some great boxes. Chris, glad you gave the caveat about the photo, I was gonna say that was pretty delicate wallpaper for a garage! Agree with Charles, anything with rear port is gonna be funky on a bookshelf.
