seti
I am not very familiar with the Harmon Kardon vintage gear but I am looking at an INTEGRATED HARMON KARDON TRIO A-224. All I know is that it has EL34 output tubes and that it also has a tube phono pre built in. It is rated at 12wpc. I was wondering if anyone here is familiar with this HK amp? Any info much apprecitated. Trash or treasure?
NOSValves
Soory this is one I've yet to run into. You must mean EL84 outputs with only 12WPC ?
seti
Huh that is odd it says EL84 perhaps it is 2 x 24 watts a channel? Would that sound right since the model name is A224? Not alot of power but I thought I would ease my way up : )
seti
Seems simple enough.....
NOSValves
Yup those are EL84's and 12 WPC would be about right. It looks like it would be a reasonably good sounding integrated heck it's even tube rectified. Just don't get sunk to far into an obscure tube unit like this resale is never all that great on this type vintage integrated. Craig
seti
Thanks for the advice Craig. What would be a fair price for such a piece? I think I'll buy it if the price is fair and if I like the sound as is perhaps I'll have it upgraded. It would be nice for my bedroom system. 3dzapper
If the price is right, and it has the original tubes, it may well be worthwhile buying just for the HK/ Mullard 12AX7s and 5AR4. Rick
Daddy Dee
So, Seti? Did you pull the trigger?
NOSValves
I'd $150 or so would be reasonable.
seti
Thanks for all the feedback. I bought a subwoofer amplifier with built in crossover from the same guy for my custom sub. I am talking to him about the amp feeling him out for a price but I wanted some input. I have been reading about this amp and some feel the iron is anemic for this amp but I am still interested. seti
The tubes are not original GE, Amperex and Conn. What are Conn?
3dzapper
Rebranded tubes made for the Conn Organ Company. Rick
