thebes
Headed home this weekend to celebrate my mom's 80th. While there I asked if I could "borrow" my brother-in-laws box of tubes from his grandfather's ham radio days. Using the Forum Search function I found out that about a third of them are used in various pieces of gear. No big winners dollar-wise but a pretty interesting mix. Mostly RCa with a few GE's. Here's the lineup in no particular order: 2 5R4GY and 1 5R4GYB 1 5V4GA 1 6DZ7 1 5Y3GT 3 6SC7 3 6C4 6 BA6 5 12BY7A 3 6Au6 2 6AU6A 4 6BAC 2 6AN8A 2 BE6 3 BH6 3 12AX7 3 12AT7 1 6BS8 2 each OA2 and OB2 Now I have a Marantz 8b, a Conrad Johnson PV3 Pre, a Scott 299 and Fisher's 400c, 500C and XB202. Any candidates for tube rolling in these?

steve
of course if you're "borrowing" these, I guess selling them is out of the question! Nice find, though,,and hope your Mom had a nice birthday!! Regards, Steve
colterphoto1
What does (***) mean in your subject line?[8-)] probably that the last letters of this spelling made a dirty words. The auto-spell checker here hates dirty words. You can't hardly say ****, ***, or *****-***** without seeing asterisks.. LOL ps, I just typed it that way for fun Michael
thebes
Julie, I'm not sure why it did that. because the spelling was "cornocopia". Sorry Steve I am holding on to the 12's because I know I can use those. My borther-in-law said I could take what I need and return the rest, so that does not (in my mind anyways) preclude some tube swaping, but what I'm in the market for is higher dollar than these things go for. Methinks the RCA 12's are pretty cheap compared to mullards etc. and should be readily available on ebay. I'm still curious if some of the others ones could be used for rolling. For example, I've got an Ah! "99 tube cd player. I've got sovteks and Bugle Boys for that player but I'm wondering if I could swap any of these in for a try at a different sound. NOSValves
Thebes old buddy looks like all you have that can be rolled in your gear is the 12AX7's.
thebes
Craig you are a good man old buddy. Yoicks! Did I just say that out loud?[]
Guy Landau
The 6au6's can be used in the tuner section of the 400C/500C but may change the alignment.
pauln
Just a thought, but when you find a big box o' tubes in proximity to amateur radio gear, there is a good chance you are looking at an unemptied waste bin. They may be the bad ones - (the good ones in the gear). But good luck. Paul AD5FT
steve
Thebes I have the newer AH! 4000 player. I can't remember which tubes exactly, but I seem to remember a boat load of different tubes you can roll in! I'll check my literature and see if anything you mentioned will work!
