Rhadamanthus
Howdy, New here sort of, I have been lurking in the back ground for a month or so. I received a set of Cornwalls #28W485 & #28W486 basically for free.[] I did a little (very little) work for a guy and he paid me with some old Klipsch speakers that he didn't want any more and didn't work either. I told him I would take them, sight unseen. They are a bit rough on the outside, some veneer missing (about a 4 inch section) on the front edge and some scratches but otherwise sound. One tweeter didn't work, I took it apart of course and found the flat copper ribbon from the voice coil to the solder lug had broken down inside the lug. Soldered it together and it is fine now. One woofer has a cut in it. I have ordered new woofers and crossover for them. Isn't it amazing how free stuff ends up costing money in the end. I'm using them in my garage where I can make as much noise as I want. Currently using a Pioneer SA-8800 to drive them. I got it for free too! People just love to replace old good stuff with new junk. Rhadamanthus
Thanks, I was just posting that info to test my settings. I had been trying to post stuff for a month but couldn't get in, the page would time out when I posted. I found out that my router was bad, the ethernet cable running into the garage was struck by lightening and blew out one of the ports of my router. That in turn messed up the rest of the router settings. Plus the lightening strike took out the cable TV amp out there too.

Myhamish
Glad to have you aboard, Rhadamanthus. Sounds like the Cornwalls are going to a home where they'll be enjoyed and appreciated. Cornwalls have many attributes of a great Klipsch speaker. Horn loaded mids and highs and a bass reflex bass that slams. What kind of music do you listen to? With my Cornwalls, I listen to a fair bit of '70's progressive rock like Yes, Genesis, King Crimson and etc. On the this forum, you'll find all kinds of tips, information and heartfelt opinions. And the realization that you're not the only one out there who likes room filling audio equipment. So feel free to chime in. Take care. You know what they say. Any port in a storm. I Christen thee, Rhadamanthus, with the first terrible pun of this day. At least I didn't do my router bit. Welcome! Rhadamanthus
Thanks guys. I listen to everything, from ABBA to Zorn, funk, punk and junk. Rock, Country, Jazz, Klezmer, Folk, Bluegrass, Blues, Classical just about everything. I even like the caterwauling from the Far East and Near East. I worked for a few years at a college radio station that had free form programing. It really expanded my horizons. I have always wanted a set of Klipsch since I saw some huge ones as a little kid, I know now that they were Klipschorns. I also know now that I don't have a place for the big corner horns. No rooms in the house are suitable for them. No problem though, the Cornwalls work just fine.
