Moderators dtel Posted November 10, 2005 Moderators Share Posted November 10, 2005 I thought the movies were in DD,but 9 out of 10 in stereo. Almost all the hd channels are 5.1 do i have something set wrong. I think it is setup correct, I just thought they would be 5.1 , I had rented some of these so i know they were 5.1 on the dvd. RickB
The HD channels are in DD. HBO East and West, and Showtime East and West are in DD. I don't have Starz or Cinemax so I'm not sure about them. The rest of the channels are in stereo.
customsteve01
I have DirecTV and it is the same way. Even most of the pay per view are in stereo. On DirecTV the menu will tell you if its stereo or DD. Steve
HatTrick66
this has got to be my greatest (and perhaps only) source of irritation with DirecTV. Why do some movies come out with DD and most do not? Even movies that clearly should be shown in DD (recently Sin City, Robots, etc.) do not have a DD channel. MrMcGoo
Many folks do not have full blown home theaters. I also suspect that the DD 5.1 signal uses more bandwidth. Bandwidth is limited and is very expensive. Some movies benefit from the 5.1 mix, tothers are a waste of bandwidth. When a 5.1 signal is avaialble, I usually use it. The Dish PVR hard drives can recored the 5.1 mixes. When a 5.1 movie starts and stops on Dish, the 5.1 signal stutters. This is probably due to coping issues. That's your receiver detecting a signal change and adapting to it.

I wouldn't think so. It's your receiver acting up more badly than others. Mine is mute for about half-a-second while it switches over to DD and then the magnificent sound appears. I wish we had more DD movies on the Movie Network here in Canada. I'd say 1 out of 10, and sometimes not the right ones.
MrMcGoo
The DD 5.1 signal also breaks up right at the end of the movie on Dish, right before the credits. It's their effort to degrade the quality of the movie to deter illegal copying. They sometimes put a glitch into the video as well. My processor has no trouble locking onto an audio signal. I have yet to hear a more reliable processor at signal change. There is no trouble with 5.1 material on Dish when it is a routine TV program. Only movies, and then only part of the time.
