thebes
How does it work? Looks to be a soldering station, the name on it says Ungar. Lots of levers and clamps but it doesn't seem to be large enough (the boards about a foot square) to hold an amp while you work on it. Also came with some small spring-loaded tweezer/clip thingies. What are they for? While I am it why do people who solder have a small sponge handy?
CaptnBob
Not sure what the gizmo is, but I've got a little bench clamp to hold wires - say on a mic cable - in place while you adjust the thing you're soldering them to - say an XLR plug. Then you can hold the solder in one hand and the soldering iron in the other, and not have anything roll away and fall on the floor. The damp sponge is to clean the tip of the soldering iron. Speedball
It does'nt have the letters A-M-Y anywhere near the Unger does it? ...if so I could point you in the right direction. ..have a good Friday.
thebes
Well the subject would probably make more since if I actually posted the picture of the gizmo. Sorry!
Marvel
It looks like a cheap ungar iron. The rest is pretty handy IF you work on PC boards (printed circuit, not personal computer, although, they could be one in the same....). The board clamps allow you to position the board any way you need it to do work on it. Bruce btw, did you come up with any other info on the H/K SS amp you picked up? sfogg
" Also came with some small spring-loaded tweezer/clip thingies. What are they for?" Heatsinks. When soldering near temperature sensitive parts you clamp them to the copper between the component and where you are soldering and it helps reduce the heat that gets to the component while you solder. NOSValves
While I am it why do people who solder have a small sponge handy? You keep the sponge wet and use it to clean the tip of your soldering Iron. Craig
Speedball
The clamp Gizmo thing looks like it could be pretty handy for holding any small objects on a work bench........could also mount the clamp thing right to the bench for holding even heavier things. thebes
Wow! Asked and answered. Thanks guys. Yeah, I wouldn't use that soldering iron either, but I have a couple of others. Well I don't work on circuit boards but it might come in handy along the way for gluing small stuff and for small soldering projects. Well built gizmo, you can adjust the clamps every which way and the feet on the bottom are two different sizes , taller ones in back , shorter in front, thus angling the work surface towards you. Worth the five bucks I paid. Marvel, I'll PM you re the Citation 16.
